The Electrical Maintenance Supervisor Role
The Electrical Maintenance Supervisor operates within a demanding environment, playing a critical role in ensuring aircraft readiness for the RSAF customer. This full-time position is highly visible and requires regular interaction with various departments and organisations, including Supply, Workshops, Quality, Product Safety, and MODSAP. The supervisor is central to coordinating maintenance activities and upholding operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide first-stage, mandatory, and independent certification for completed tasks by Maintenance Team Technicians, including Red-X clearance.
- Plan and coordinate scheduled on- and off-aircraft maintenance activities to meet the aircraft maintenance programme and RSAF operational requirements.
- Ensure work adheres to approved data, standards, and procedures detailed in the MOE.
- Prioritise tasks based on shop and aircraft schedules.
- Monitor and provide daily progress updates against the programme via agreed IT applications and verbal briefs.
- Highlight potential issues impacting the aircraft programme to the Team Leader/Maintenance Manager.
- Ensure timely and accurate information submission for AES, DDR, and Technical Queries.
- Limit overtime requirements through effective planning and flexi-time utilisation.
- Verify that supervised personnel possess the necessary knowledge and skills for assigned tasks.
- Provide direct supervision to personnel to ensure quality standards are met.
- Ensure strict tool control procedures are followed.
- Investigate and report on technical issues and accident/incident events.
- Plan shift patterns to ensure effective manpower utilisation.
- Prepare for and cooperate with all internal and external audits.
- Ensure sound maintenance practices and documentation procedures are consistently followed.
- Confirm all personnel are authorised/certified to accomplish delegated tasks.
- Ascertain that pre-use checks are carried out on equipment used in supervised tasks.
- Provide on-the-job theoretical and practical training.
- Assess team personnel competency and report deficiencies to the Team Leader/Maintenance Manager.
- Certify personnel for specific tasks when certified as a ‘Work Place Trainer’.
- Ensure accurate demands for replacement components/parts are placed promptly.
- Accurately record required-by and impact dates for demands.
- Monitor forecast dates for demands in conjunction with the project plan and place critical items on the ‘critical list’.
- Confirm availability of serviceable and calibrated test equipment for planned tasks, informing the Operations Team Leader if unavailable.
- Establish and maintain positive relations with internal and external customers.
- Ability to tow aircraft and supervise an aircraft towing team.
- Hold 2nd signature authority.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
Candidates for this role should possess 2-5 years of relevant experience and meet the following essential criteria:
- A recognised qualification at NVQ3/ONC/OND/BTEC level in a relevant technical discipline, a technical apprenticeship, or an equivalent technical qualification acceptable to M&CA.
- Extensive post-qualification practical maintenance experience within an operational flying aircraft environment, supported by formal recorded workplace applied related training, or 3 years of experience in Tornado Avionics/Electrical system testing.
- Relevant type training (‘Q’ Course) and equipment-specific training, if required.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and proven ability to supervise engineering personnel at all levels.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) membership at the appropriate level prior to commencing employment in KSA.
Desirable Skills and Knowledge
- A sound understanding of the RSAF 4-1-7166 series and supporting technical publications applicable to the work area.
- An understanding of RSAF operations and working practices.
- Working knowledge of Q-pulse, IMS, and an understanding of M&CA processes.
- Knowledge of relevant parts of the MOE and associated procedures.
- Ability to confirm full accomplishment of maintenance tasks.
- Understanding of personnel authorisations and limitations.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and report discrepancies.
- Proficiency in the use and control of required tooling and equipment.
- Relevant Type-specific training.
- Understanding and application of human factors, error management, health & safety, and proactive hazard analysis appropriate to the role.
- Hold a current driving licence.
- Computer literate with an understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite.
