Role Summary

JHAH is seeking a full-time General Surgeon specializing in Trauma Surgery or Abdominal Wall Reconstruction. The General Surgeon will provide high-standard, cost-effective attending and consulting surgical care to eligible recipients, performing duties within their approved area of expertise and competence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Admit patients through the Emergency Room, out-patient clinics, and accept patients from other hospitals.
  • Conduct daily rounds on assigned in-patients during workdays, weekends, and holidays as per specific service on-call arrangements.
  • Respond to emergency calls in a timely manner and attend to patients when required, including participating in trauma care according to established roles.
  • Attend to assigned out-patient surgical and procedural clinics in a timely manner.
  • Ensure patients are adequately prepared for surgery and maintain punctuality and professionalism in the operating room environment.
  • Ensure appropriate operative notes are dictated promptly and keep patients' caregivers/guardians informed about procedure outcomes.
  • Participate in the rotational 24-hour on-call coverage.
  • Attend service clinical and educational rounds, including morning reports and sign-out rounds.
  • Engage in service/department Quality and Safety activities, including reviews, audits, and presentations, and report patients’ adverse events.
  • Participate in teaching and educational activities for junior staff, medical students, and interns.
  • Delegate and supervise house staff, nursing staff, and operative procedures appropriately.
  • Ensure legible and timely entries into patients’ records, maintain complete patient case records, and adhere to hospital policy regarding patient record confidentiality.
  • Adhere to hospital and departmental policies and bylaws, and participate in medical records audits when required.

Collaboration and Reporting

The General Surgeon reports to the Division/Unit Head and the Department Chair of the Department of Surgery. Daily contacts include patients and consultations with other specialists on major, complicated surgical or related specialty care cases. Frequent contacts are made with personnel of surgical services, nurses, and physicians to exchange information or resolve problems. Occasional contacts may involve counterparts in other Middle Eastern/Saudi Arabian Medical Facilities for consultation and advice regarding clinical evaluation/follow-up of JHAH patients.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of training in a recognized General Surgery training program.
  • Ability to keep up to date with the knowledge and skills required to perform duties safely.
  • Maintenance of adequate continuous medical education credits as required by hospital and licensing authorities.
