About the Role

Rotana Hotels is seeking a dedicated Environmental Health and Safety Officer to join our team in Jeddah and Makkah, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role is crucial for maintaining the highest standards of environmental health, occupational safety, and food safety across our properties. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring compliance with both local and international regulations, as well as internal corporate standards, contributing to a safe and healthy environment for guests and employees.

Environmental Health and Food Safety Responsibilities

  • Establish, implement, and maintain the EHS and food safety management system in accordance with HACCP/ISO standards and all applicable regulations.
  • Provide top management with comprehensive reports on the EHS and food safety management system, including recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Participate in incident investigations, document root causes, communicate findings, and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Monitor and identify relevant changes in local Sustainability, Health and Safety, and Food Safety regulations and laws, updating internal procedures, policies, and forms accordingly.
  • Ensure that suppliers and contractors comply with EHS and food safety standards through regular audits and communication.
  • Manage and control all documentation, including manuals, policies, procedures, and logs, related to EHSMS and food safety.

Occupational Health and Safety Management

  • Develop and periodically review OHSMS manuals, policies, and procedures.
  • Lead the implementation of the OHS System and monitor its effectiveness through inspections and meetings with department heads and operational colleagues.
  • Actively participate in periodic reviews and assist in setting EHS objectives and targets.
  • Ensure that all new employees receive necessary OHS training pertinent to their specific tasks.
  • Report on OHSMS performance to senior management and relevant sector regulatory authorities.
  • Conduct and regularly review risk assessments for all areas within the hotel in coordination with concerned departments, implementing specific control measures.

Auditing, Reporting, and Compliance Assurance

  • Lead or participate in various EHS, HACCP, ISO, Sustainability, and OHSMS compliance and management system audits, providing guidance on conformance and required corrective actions.
  • Establish audit requirements to ensure comprehensive compliance with food safety, occupational safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Oversee all audit results, evaluate trends, communicate findings, and establish action plans to ensure the hotel's continuous compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that all legal requirements are updated, communicated, and consistently implemented throughout the property.

Training, Sustainability, and Corporate Responsibility

  • Conduct training for all employees on EHS and food safety policies and procedures.
  • Undertake regular EHS and food safety inspections at the workplace and implement corrective actions as required.
  • Drive improvement and track goal achievement through the collection, analysis, and communication of EHS goals and measurements, reviewing action plans with the Hotel EHS committee.
  • Collaborate with various departments to implement corporate social responsibility activities that contribute positively to the community and environment.
  • Oversee the implementation and monitoring of Rotana Earth programs within the hotel.
  • Promote and ensure operations are conducted in a safe and environmentally friendly manner to protect the health and safety of guests and employees, as well as to conserve the environment.

Required Experience

Candidates for this position should possess 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in Environmental Health and Safety roles, preferably within the hospitality sector or a similar environment with stringent safety and food compliance requirements. A proven track record of implementing and managing EHS systems, conducting audits, and ensuring regulatory adherence is essential.
