Bureau Veritas is a global leader in Testing, Inspection, and Certification (TIC) services, dedicated to helping clients address growing challenges in quality, safety, environmental protection, and social responsibility. We are seeking a Senior Maintenance Supervisor for our Mineral Solutions division. This is a contract position based in Jeddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia, suitable for professionals with 5-10 years of relevant experience.
Role Purpose and Scope
The Senior Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all preventive and corrective maintenance activities within the laboratory environment. This role ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of laboratory equipment, facilities, and utilities. The supervisor leads the maintenance team, addresses equipment breakdowns promptly, and coordinates with external service providers to minimize operational downtime and maintain high standards of equipment performance and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise preventive and corrective maintenance activities for laboratory equipment, facilities, and utilities.
- Ensure prompt resolution of equipment breakdowns to minimize operational downtime.
- Supervise maintenance for sample preparation, Fire Assay, Wet chemistry equipment, and laboratory support systems such as air compressors, dust, and lead collection systems.
- Monitor equipment performance and identify maintenance requirements proactively.
- Coordinate and oversee maintenance work performed by contractors, suppliers, and external service providers.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely and efficiently, in accordance with company procedures.
- Formulate and maintain traceable equipment records, logs, inspection reports, and work orders.
- Conduct training and competency assessments for the maintenance team.
- Perform routine inspections of equipment, facilities, and utilities to identify defects and cost-effective improvement opportunities.
- Monitor and maintain spare parts inventory, initiating procurement requests when required.
- Support the installation, commissioning, relocation, and upgrading of laboratory equipment.
- Investigate recurring equipment failures and recommend and implement corrective actions to improve reliability.
- Plan and coordinate maintenance shutdowns and major repairs.
- Ensure proper housekeeping and maintenance standards are upheld throughout the laboratory and support facilities.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: A Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electromechanical Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience in mechanical and electrical maintenance, preferably within a laboratory environment.
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical maintenance systems relevant to laboratory environments.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and problem-solving.
- Awareness of preventive maintenance principles and equipment reliability.
Work Environment and Safety Standards
This contract role is based in Jeddah, Makkah. The position may require working during night shifts, weekends, or providing support in emergency situations as dictated by operational requirements and in accordance with labor regulations.
As a member of Bureau Veritas, the Senior Maintenance Supervisor is also responsible for upholding stringent Quality, Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (QHSSE) standards:
- Comply with Bureau Veritas HSE policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and hazard-free workplace, reporting any hazards, incidents, or unsafe conditions.
- Take responsibility for personal and team health and safety.
- Participate in HSE initiatives, investigations, and risk control measures.
- Cooperate with all safety requirements and promote a positive safety culture.
