About the Director of Finance & Accounting Role
Sheraton Hotels & Resorts is seeking a Director of Finance & Accounting to join its team in Medina, Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah. This full-time position requires a strategic financial leader to oversee all financial operations and contribute to the property's business success.
Role Overview and Strategic Contribution
The Director of Finance & Accounting serves as the property’s strategic financial business leader. This role champions, develops, and implements property-wide strategies to deliver products and services that meet or exceed the expectations of the brand's target customers and employees. The position provides essential financial expertise to support the successful execution of brand service strategies and initiatives, while maximizing return on investment. A key responsibility is creating and executing a business plan aligned with the property and brand's strategic direction, focusing on financial and accounting activities to achieve desirable financial results.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop strategies to improve profit, including cost-benefit analysis and exploration of new business opportunities.
- Analyze financial information, forecast sales against expenses, and create annual budget plans.
- Compile and analyze actual sales data against projected sales, and monitor performance.
- Analyze variances between actual and forecasted wages for improved budget planning.
- Identify underlying principles and reasons within financial data by breaking down information.
- Develop and implement new business plans creatively and practically.
- Create the annual operating budget for the property and provide analytical support during budget reviews to identify cost-saving and productivity opportunities.
- Implement appropriate controls to manage business risks and ensure a strong accounting and operational control environment to safeguard assets and improve profitability.
- Analyze financial data and market trends to inform strategic decisions.
- Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive annual business plan aligned with company and brand strategic direction.
- Provide ongoing analytical support by monitoring operating department sales and produce accurate forecasts to enable operational adjustments.
- Oversee internal, external, and regulatory audit processes.
- Manage communication with owners effectively and ensure property working capital and cash flow are managed in accordance with brand SOPs and owner requirements.
- Ensure Profits and Losses are documented accurately and monitor all applicable taxes.
- Submit reports in a timely manner and ensure compliance with management contracts, reporting requirements, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Local Standard Operating Procedures (LSOPs).
- Reconcile balance sheets and ensure P&L accuracy, including proper matching of costs to revenue.
- Ensure team members are cross-trained, property policies are administered fairly, and new hires receive appropriate orientation and training.
- Create development plans for team members based on their strengths, needs, and career aspirations, and conduct performance reviews.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates should possess:
- A 4-year bachelor’s degree in Finance and Accounting or a related major, with 2 years of experience in finance, accounting, or a related professional area.
- Alternatively, a Master’s degree in Finance and Accounting or a related major with no work experience required.
Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement
This role requires strong leadership and interpersonal skills to influence and encourage others, advocate for sound financial decisions, and lead by example. The Director will communicate strategic goals clearly to subordinates, leverage functional leadership to influence the executive team and property strategies, and provide excellent leadership by assigning clear accountability with appropriate authority. Engaging with owners and understanding their priorities and strategic focus is crucial, as is advising the General Manager and executive committee on operating and financial issues. Financial concepts must be communicated clearly and persuasively to drive desired behaviors.
Work Environment
This is a full-time position based in Medina, Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah, within Sheraton Hotels & Resorts.
