About the Role: EHS Safety Officer Warehouse
Astek Middle East is seeking a full-time EHS Safety Officer Warehouse to support its operations in the Makkah region, covering facilities in Jeddah and Makkah. This role focuses on implementing and continuously improving the EHS program across large distribution and warehouse facilities, including integrated vehicle maintenance and workshop areas.
Role Overview and Context
The EHS Safety Officer will maintain a highly field-oriented presence, responsible for identifying and controlling operational risks, ensuring compliance with applicable EHS requirements, preventing incidents, and promoting a strong safety culture across warehouse, logistics, and workshop operations. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with operations, logistics, maintenance, facilities, HR, contractors, and the wider EHS function. Practical experience in both warehouse/distribution environments and vehicle maintenance or workshop operations will be particularly relevant for this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain site EHS policies, procedures, safe work practices, and management systems.
- Conduct risk assessments, JSA/JHA, hazard identification, and risk-control activities, including daily, weekly, and monthly safety inspections and audits.
- Identify unsafe conditions and behaviours, ensure corrective actions are completed, and stop unsafe work where an immediate safety risk exists.
- Monitor safety risks related to material handling, forklifts, pallet racking, loading/unloading, storage, housekeeping, traffic management, and pedestrian segregation.
- Assess and control risks associated with vehicle maintenance and workshop activities, including vehicle lifts, pits, welding, grinding, painting, battery handling, and power tools.
- Implement and monitor Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures and manage Permit-to-Work requirements for high-risk activities.
- Ensure immediate reporting of incidents, near misses, and dangerous occurrences; conduct investigations and root-cause analysis; and track corrective and preventive actions.
- Identify and control occupational health risks (noise, vibration, dust, chemicals, manual handling, ergonomics), coordinate occupational health surveillance, and manage First Aid and PPE.
- Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste segregation, storage, and disposal; monitor spill prevention and response; and support environmental compliance.
- Maintain fire risk assessments and emergency response procedures, organizing and participating in emergency drills.
- Deliver and coordinate EHS inductions, toolbox talks, safety awareness activities, and support competency training for high-risk operations.
- Support contractor EHS pre-qualification, induction, and monitoring to ensure compliance with site safety rules and permit requirements.
- Monitor compliance with applicable local EHS legislation and company standards, supporting audits, regulatory inspections, and ISO 45001/ISO 14001 activities.
Qualifications and Experience
- 1–3 years of relevant EHS/HSE/Safety experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a relevant discipline.
- Valid Kawader License – mandatory.
- OSHA, NEBOSH IGC/NEBOSH, ISO 45001, or equivalent EHS certification.
- Practical experience in risk assessment, JSA/JHA, and hazard identification.
- Experience in warehouse, logistics, material handling, and/or workshop safety.
- Knowledge of Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) and Permit-to-Work systems.
- Experience in incident/near-miss investigation and corrective action follow-up.
