The Role of Safety Officer

APICO is seeking a dedicated Safety Officer to oversee daily health and safety activities within its plant. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Jeddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia. The Safety Officer will be instrumental in ensuring a safe working environment and fostering a proactive safety culture across all operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections to identify potential hazards.
  • Ensure strict compliance with local health and safety regulations and internal company policies.
  • Develop and implement effective safety procedures and protocols.
  • Coordinate and conduct comprehensive risk assessments.
  • Lead investigations into accidents and incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Organize and deliver engaging safety training sessions for all employees.
  • Maintain accurate safety records and documentation.
  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to promote and strengthen a robust safety culture.
  • Coordinate with security personnel to support safe and secure workplace operations as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in a health and safety role.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety and Occupational Health principles, including relevant regulations and best practices.
  • Proven Accident Investigation skills, encompassing root cause analysis and the implementation of preventive measures.
  • Demonstrated Safety Training skills, with the ability to design and deliver clear, engaging training sessions for diverse teams.
  • Experience in manufacturing or industrial environments, preferably within the plastics or packaging sector, is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with risk assessment, emergency response planning, and safety auditing is beneficial.
  • Relevant qualifications such as a diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field, and certifications (*, NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent) are considered beneficial.

Essential Skills and Attributes

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Security-related skills sufficient to coordinate effectively with security teams on workplace safety and access control.
  • A strong commitment to fostering a proactive and preventative safety culture.
  • Ability to work effectively on-site in Jeddah, including adaptability to different shifts.

Work Location

This full-time position is based on-site in Jeddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia. The role requires presence at the company's facilities to manage daily health and safety operations effectively.
