We are seeking a Senior / Staff Data Engineer (BI) to join our Customer Experience Group (CEG) team. This full-time position is based in Jeddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia, and focuses on designing, building, and maintaining the data and software foundations that support CEG's service to customers and agents across all contact channels.

The Data Department and CEG Team's Mission

The Data department at Agoda oversees all data-related requirements, aiming to enable and increase the use of data within the company. This is achieved through creative approaches and the implementation of powerful resources such as operational and analytical databases, queue systems, BI tools, and data science technology. The CEG Data team plays a critical role in empowering decision-making for business users, product managers, and engineers, while also improving customer search experiences and protecting against fraudulent activities.

Core Responsibilities of the Data Engineer

The successful candidate will work closely with Product, Operations, Analytics, Operations Efficiency, WFM, DevOps, and engineering teams to deliver reliable data pipelines, scalable models, internal tools, and clear insights. This role requires the ability to transition between engineering tasks—including pipelines, data models, internal services, tooling, and optimization—and analytics work, such as addressing business questions, creating dashboards, and performing deep-dive analyses. At the Staff level, responsibilities also include shaping CEG’s data and tooling strategy, influencing cross-team architecture, and raising the overall engineering and data standards for the team.

Data Engineering and Product Development Focus

• Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest, transform, and serve data from CEG systems and third-party tools.
• Develop and optimize data models (*, warehouse tables, marts, views) that power CEG reporting, monitoring, forecasting, QA, and experimentation.
• Ensure data quality, reliability, and observability by implementing validation checks, anomaly detection, and monitoring for key CEG datasets and metrics.
• Improve performance and cost efficiency of data jobs and queries for high-volume CEG data.
• Collaborate with data platform and engineering teams to standardize tooling and best practices (*, version control, CI/CD, code review, documentation).
• Design and build data tools and internal products for CEG, such as self-service analytics, case monitoring dashboards, and alerting systems.
• Implement APIs, data services, and lightweight UIs using languages such as Python, Java, Golang, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Translate operational pain points into concrete data tools, from problem framing to delivery and iteration.
• Apply solid software engineering practices—testing, code reviews, CI/CD, observability—to ensure data products are reliable and maintainable.
• At the Staff level, define and drive the roadmap for key CEG data tools and platforms, ensuring reuse across regions and channels.

Analytical Impact and Collaborative Environment

• Partner with CEG product and business teams to translate questions into data problems and design clear analytic approaches.
• Build and maintain dashboards and reports that provide reliable metrics and self-service access to data.
• Perform deep-dive analysis to understand trends, identify root causes, and propose practical, data-driven recommendations.
• Define and maintain metrics and KPIs (*, CSAT, NPS, SLA, AHT, FCR), ensuring consistent definitions across CEG teams and tools.
• Communicate findings in clear, business-friendly language, including implications and recommended next steps.
• Act as a trusted data partner for CEG stakeholders, including operations leaders, product managers, and regional leadership.
• Work with other data engineers, analysts, and scientists to align on data standards, reusable components, and shared datasets.
• Mentor junior and mid-level team members on data engineering, analytics, and software engineering best practices.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of team workflows, including code reviews, testing, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
• At the Staff level, influence cross-team architecture and ways of working to ensure CEG’s data ecosystem scales with business growth.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in data engineering or a related field.
• Demonstrated ability to design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and optimize data models.
• Experience ensuring data quality, reliability, and observability.
• Proficiency in improving performance and cost efficiency of data jobs and queries.
• Solid software engineering practices, including testing, code reviews, and CI/CD.
• Experience with programming languages such as Python, Java, Golang, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Strong analytical skills to translate business questions into data problems and conduct deep-dive analyses.
• Effective communication skills, capable of interacting clearly with both engineers and business stakeholders.
• For Staff level candidates, proven experience in shaping data strategy, influencing cross-team architecture, and mentoring team members is required.
