About Ma'aden and the Role

Ma'aden, a leading multi-commodity mining and metals company in the Middle East and one of the fastest-growing globally, is seeking an Engineer, Environment III. This full-time position is based in Ras Tannurah and requires 2-5 years of relevant experience. The role is integral to supporting environmental management programs across operations, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement.

Role Overview and Objectives

The Engineer, Environment III is responsible for the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of environmental management programs. A primary objective is to ensure strict compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and Ma'aden's internal standards. This involves actively reducing environmental risk and enhancing site performance through diligent oversight and reporting.

Core Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine environmental inspections and monitoring for air, water, waste, emissions, and other specified parameters.
  • Verify compliance with regulatory requirements, permits, internal standards, and site environmental procedures.
  • Maintain monitoring records and support timely environmental reporting and documentation processes.
  • Identify environmental risks, non-compliances, and opportunities for improvement during field inspections and operational reviews.
  • Support environmental incident reporting, investigation, root cause analysis, and follow-up on corrective actions.
  • Assist operations and maintenance teams in implementing practical controls to prevent recurrence of environmental incidents.
  • Participate in internal audits, regulatory inspections, and management system reviews, tracking findings and corrective action closure.

Required Qualifications and Knowledge

Candidates for this role should possess 3-5 years of experience in a relevant environmental engineering or management capacity. The following qualifications and knowledge areas are essential:

  • Familiarity with environmental regulations, permitting requirements, and waste management practices.
  • Knowledge of emissions control, environmental sampling techniques, and inspection protocols.
  • Understanding of environmental management systems (EMS).
  • Preferred Certifications: ISO 14001 awareness or internal auditor certification, NEBOSH Environmental, OSHA, or equivalent.

Environmental System Management and Improvement

The Engineer will actively support the implementation and maintenance of ISO 14001 or equivalent environmental management system requirements. This includes contributing to initiatives focused on pollution prevention, resource conservation, waste reduction, and broader sustainability goals. The role also involves recommending improvements to existing environmental processes, work practices, and reporting tools to enhance overall effectiveness.

Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting

This position involves supporting the delivery of environmental toolbox talks, awareness campaigns, and guidance for employees and contractors. Coordination with operations, maintenance, contractors, and EHSS teams is crucial to promote environmental responsibility across the site. Furthermore, the role requires providing technical input for projects, change management reviews, and environmental assessments. Key responsibilities also include collecting, validating, and analyzing environmental performance data and trends, preparing routine environmental reports, dashboards, and presentations for management review, and ensuring environmental information is accurate, complete, and readily available for informed decision-making.
