Assistant Maintenance Lead

About the Role

Ornua is seeking an Assistant Maintenance Lead to provide essential engineering and maintenance support for daily plant activities at its AlWazeen plant in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves deputizing for the Engineering Lead, focusing on executing day-to-day operations, enhancing equipment reliability, and improving overall facility efficiency and safety. The position requires 5-10 years of relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities

The Assistant Maintenance Lead will oversee a team of 4-5 technicians and ensure all plant activities comply with relevant legislation, food safety codes, and environmental standards. Key responsibilities include:

• Reviewing job orders daily to assign work priorities across shifts.
• Scheduling periodic repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment to ensure continuous production.
• Planning and organizing maintenance schedules and shift working to meet dynamic production requirements.
• Developing and implementing new methods and procedures to improve operations, minimize costs, and optimize labor and material utilization.

Equipment and Utility Management

This role involves directing maintenance activities for facility utility systems and ensuring the continuous supply of heat, steam, water, electric power, gas, or air required for plant operations. Specific tasks include:

• Designing, executing, and optimizing a comprehensive Preventative Maintenance (PM) program for all plant equipment and systems.
• Collaborating with service technicians and external experts to develop regular service plans for specialized equipment.
• Coordinating technician activities for fabricating or modifying machines, tools, or equipment.
• Modifying programming of equipment, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs), to ensure automation synchronization.

Coordination, Safety, and Quality Assurance

The Assistant Maintenance Lead will ensure adherence to company policies, with a focus on hygiene, food safety (HACCP), and occupational health and safety regulations. Responsibilities include:

• Coordinating external contractors for complex equipment installations, re-installations, and routine maintenance.
• Working with operational teams to investigate and resolve technical problems, identify root causes of plant underperformance, and recommend improvements for overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

Team Leadership and Inventory Management

This position includes supervisory ownership for subordinate activities and fostering a quality-focused mindset. Key duties are:

• Maintaining an effective training and skills-matrix development program for staff.
• Mentoring technicians and making yourself available to staff.
• Maintaining an efficient spare parts inventory and ordering system to prevent operational delays while managing cost targets.

Candidates should possess 5-10 years of experience in a relevant maintenance or engineering role. This is a full-time position based in Riyadh, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The role involves leading a team within a dynamic production environment, ensuring compliance with strict industry standards.
