About the Role
National Medical Care Company (Care) is seeking a Consultant Anesthesia to join their medical team in Riyadh. This contract position is central to providing comprehensive consultation and administering a full spectrum of anesthesia methods and techniques. The role demands a high level of professional performance, ensuring exceptional patient care in accordance with professional medical ethics, established standards, and hospital by-laws.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide patient care within the parameters of professional competence and clinical privileges, adhering to CBAHI / JCIA standards and Ministry of Health laws.
- Administer anesthesia using a full range of anesthetic agents, methods, and techniques, while observing safety standards in the operating room.
- Interview patients scheduled for surgery to assess their condition, develop an anesthesia care plan, and establish rapport.
- Discuss the condition of high anesthetic risk patients with concerned consultants, explain expected outcomes to patients/guardians, and obtain required consent.
- Monitor patients pre-operatively, during, and post-operatively to evaluate recovery, assess complications, and make necessary recommendations.
- Take appropriate therapeutic measures in emergency situations for assigned patients experiencing post-anesthesia complications.
- Provide consultation to other medical specialties in the field of Anesthesiology and perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within the specialty.
- Participate in the departmental on-call rota for patient care and admission, responding to emergencies related to the specialty as required.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and legible medical records for all patients, including appropriate documentation for controlled drugs.
- Educate patients and families on their care plan, respecting their goals and choices, and providing health promotion tailored to their developmental level and needs.
Leadership and Professional Development
- Provide effective leadership within the department, maintaining an appropriate quality plan using measurable performance improvement standards in anesthesiology.
- Supervise Registrars and Residents in the Department of Anesthesia, including advising on anesthesia administration.
- Assist the Chief Anesthesiologist in supervising the Recovery Room and serving on the Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation Committee and team.
- Actively participate in Continued Medical Education (**** through hospital activities and national/international meetings, conferences, and symposia.
- Contribute to training programs for junior medical staff, nursing staff, and technicians within the hospital.
- Continuously update knowledge in the medical field and upgrade professional skills.
- Participate actively as a member of the Code Blue Team as directed by the Head of the Department.
- Participate in assigned committee meetings, such as Quality Improvement and Infection Control.
Collaboration and Reporting
The Consultant Anesthesia reports directly to the Head of Department. This role involves extensive liaison with consultants of both own and other specialties, nursing staff, other healthcare professionals, and patients and their families. Effective communication and teamwork are essential for integrated patient care.
Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in Anesthesiology.
- Demonstrated ability to practice within clinically relevant and scientifically valid standards, guidelines, and criteria.
- Commitment to observing and upholding patients' rights of security, confidentiality, and privacy.
- Adherence to Department Policies and Procedures, as well as hospital by-laws, Rules, and Regulations.
Work Environment
This position operates within anesthesia services on a 24-hour basis, including participation in the departmental on-call rota. Clinical duties are expected to account for approximately 75% of the time. The role is based in Riyadh and is offered on a contract basis.
