About the Role

Bupa Arabia is seeking a Consultant - Family Medicine to join their team in Riyadh. This full-time role focuses on providing comprehensive medical care to adult and pediatric patients within telemedicine settings, with a primary emphasis on diabetology. The Consultant will lead the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of diabetes and related metabolic disorders, alongside a broad range of acute and chronic medical conditions, applying principles of population health and value-based care.

Key Clinical Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive telemedicine care, including virtual assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up for diabetes, metabolic disorders, and other acute and chronic conditions.
  • Conduct thorough clinical evaluations, encompassing medical history, virtual physical assessment, medication review, diabetes risk assessment, and interpretation of diagnostic findings.
  • Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based management plans, focusing on glycemic optimization, medication, lifestyle modification, preventive care, and specialist referrals.
  • Manage patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, obesity, and other metabolic conditions, actively working to prevent, identify, and manage related complications and comorbidities.
  • Promote preventive care, chronic disease management, population health, and value-based care initiatives to improve glycemic control and reduce diabetes-related complications.

Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance

  • Adhere to all relevant medical regulations, ethical guidelines, and quality assurance standards specific to telehealth practice.
  • Maintain current knowledge of telehealth regulations and best practices, implementing necessary adjustments as changes occur.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, research activities, and clinical audits to enhance patient care and outcomes.
  • Ensure accurate and timely clinical documentation of patient encounters and prepare reports for audits and inspections.
  • Collaborate with compliance officers to ensure all practices meet regulatory standards.

Telehealth Platform Proficiency

  • Utilize digital health technologies, including remote patient monitoring and telemedicine platforms, to provide safe, high-quality virtual care.
  • Maintain proficiency in using the designated telehealth platform, encompassing video conferencing, secure messaging, and electronic health records (EHR) integration.
  • Actively participate in training programs and stay updated on platform enhancements and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient records in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Collaborate with IT support to troubleshoot any technical issues related to the telehealth platform.

Patient Safety and Engagement

  • Maintain compliance with all patient safety standards and ensure patient safety across all clinical interactions, reporting any risks to the quality department.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing clear explanations of diagnoses, treatment options, medication use, and follow-up care.
  • Conduct satisfactory patient consultations through effective communication, comprehensive history taking, empathy, and clear explanation of diagnosis and management plans.
  • Monitor patient feedback and address concerns promptly, utilizing patient satisfaction surveys for continuous improvement.
  • Implement safety protocols to minimize risks during consultations and conduct regular training sessions on patient safety for healthcare staff.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Professional Development

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, including endocrinologists, dietitians, diabetes educators, pharmacists, and primary care providers, to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care.
  • Share insights and recommendations to support patient-centered care approaches and facilitate communication among team members regarding patient status and needs.
  • Mentor junior staff and provide training on clinical protocols.
  • Continuously enhance professional knowledge and skills in family medicine with a focus on diabetology, in-person, and telehealth best practices.
  • Attend relevant conferences, workshops, and online courses, staying up-to-date on the latest advancements in diabetology and telehealth technology.
