Cybersecurity Exercise Specialist

About the Role

Socium - Teams Done Differently is seeking a Cyber Simulation Exercises Scenario Developer for a consulting client in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This contract position focuses on developing realistic cybersecurity exercises to enhance workforce readiness and incident response capabilities. The role requires an immediate start and is based onsite, five days a week, for a 12-month rolling contract with potential for extension up to three years or more.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop cyber range exercises, including Threat Hunting Events, Live Fire Exercises, and Capture the Flag scenarios.
• Build realistic scenarios covering ransomware, phishing, cloud misconfigurations, insider threats, and incident response.
• Create exercise injects, logs, alerts, participant instructions, facilitator guides, runbooks, and scoring rubrics.
• Build and maintain virtualized or cloud-based lab environments, integrating security tools such as SIEM, EDR, and IDS.
• Support live exercise delivery, troubleshoot technical issues, and produce performance reports and lessons learned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Proven hands-on experience developing cybersecurity simulations on a commercial or open cyber range platform.
• Experience creating realistic exercise injects and supporting technical artifacts.
• Strong knowledge of incident response, attack techniques, and defensive controls.
• Experience with virtualization, networking, Windows/Linux, and Active Directory.
• Strong scripting skills in at least one of Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
• A relevant degree or equivalent practical experience.

Experience Level

Candidates should possess 5-10 years of relevant experience in cybersecurity simulation development.

Work Environment and Contract Details

This is an onsite contract position located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, requiring attendance five days a week. The initial project duration is a 12-month rolling contract, with the potential to extend up to three years or more based on project needs.
