About ***** and the Data Engineer Role

***** is a fintech company founded to transform the lending landscape for MSMEs in Saudi Arabia. The company leverages AI to streamline loan decisions for financial institutions, aiming to bridge a significant financing gap by automating underwriting processes. We are expanding our data engineering team and seeking a Data Engineer to join us full-time in Riyadh, operating under a hybrid work model.

Role Context and Objectives

The primary focus of this role is to build and optimize data infrastructure and pipelines. The Data Engineer will work closely with ML developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to design and deliver reliable data infrastructure. This infrastructure will be crucial for analytics and the training of machine learning models, supporting *****'s mission to enhance financial services through technology.

Core Responsibilities

• Design and contribute to building scalable data infrastructures and pipelines that power ML models, ensuring reliable data flow from diverse sources.
• Own data quality and governance by establishing and maintaining data quality frameworks, including validation rules, cleaning mechanisms, and handling missing or contradictory values.
• Integrate with enterprise systems by specifying requirements for and assisting in building connectors that link AI models with client data sources.
• Contribute to data security and compliance by collaborating with the team to meet regulatory data security and privacy requirements.
• Enable the ML team by working closely with them to ensure access to clean, well-structured, and timely available data for model training, testing, and production inference.
• Operationalise data solutions by ensuring clear documentation, observability, and self-service capabilities are available.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

• Substantial experience in data engineering, demonstrated through a relevant engineering degree and at least 5 years of hands-on experience building production data systems.
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Demonstrable experience building ETL/ELT pipelines using tools such as Apache Airflow and dbt.
• Hands-on experience with cloud data platforms, preferably GCP, and a deep understanding of data warehouse design patterns.
• Strong problem-solving skills.

Compensation and Work Environment

The role operates within a hybrid model, primarily based at our Riyadh office with occasional work-from-home flexibility. The successful applicant will work directly with several major Saudi financial institutions and collaborate with an international team of experienced leaders, engineers, product managers, and designers, gaining valuable experience in the FinTech and startup sectors.
