Role Overview: Hotel Manager

Marriott International is seeking a Hotel Manager for a full-time position in Riyadh. This role functions as the strategic business leader for property operations and acts as the General Manager in their absence. The Hotel Manager will oversee various departments to ensure operational excellence and alignment with brand standards, focusing on maximizing employee satisfaction, growing revenues, and optimizing financial performance.

Key Operational Responsibilities

As a member of the Executive Committee, the Hotel Manager develops and implements property-wide strategies that deliver products and services to meet or exceed the needs and expectations of the brand’s target customer and property employees. Areas of direct responsibility include:

  • Front Office operations
  • Retail and Gift Shops
  • Recreation and Fitness Center
  • Housekeeping services
  • Security and Loss Prevention
  • Engineering and Maintenance
  • Food and Beverage / Culinary operations
  • Event Management, where applicable

Financial Management and Profitability

The Hotel Manager drives financial results by focusing the operations team on critical components that enhance guest satisfaction and optimize financial performance. This includes:

  • Reviewing financial reports and statements to assess operational performance against budget.
  • Ensuring capital expenditure funds are utilized for priorities outlined in the service strategy.
  • Collaborating with direct reports to identify concerns and improve departmental financial performance.
  • Striving to maintain profit margins without compromising guest or employee satisfaction.
  • Identifying and analyzing operational challenges, facilitating solutions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Coaching and supporting the operations team in managing occupancy and rate, wages, and controllable expenses.
  • Reviewing Wage Progress Reports, comparing budgeted to actual wages, and holding the team accountable for results.
  • Developing and executing an operational strategy aligned with the brand’s business strategy.
  • Making and executing key decisions to advance property goals.

Property Operations and Service Delivery

This role focuses on ensuring operations meet the brand’s target customer needs and continuously improving service performance. Key activities include:

  • Communicating clear and consistent messages regarding operational goals to achieve desired results.
  • Ensuring brand and regional business initiatives are implemented, communicating follow-up actions as needed.
  • Ensuring core elements of the service strategy are in place to produce desired results.
  • Regularly touring the building, engaging with employees and guests to understand business needs and assess operational opportunities.
  • Establishing a clear vision for product and service delivery on the property.
  • Championing the brand’s service vision for product and service delivery, ensuring alignment among the property leadership team.

Human Resources Management and Team Leadership

The Hotel Manager is responsible for fostering employee commitment to excellent service and ensuring fair treatment. This involves:

  • Observing employee service behaviors and providing feedback to individuals and/or managers.
  • Hiring operations management team members who demonstrate strong functional expertise, creativity, and entrepreneurial leadership.
  • Conducting annual performance appraisals with direct reports according to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Utilizing an “open door” policy and reviewing employee satisfaction results to identify and address problems or concerns.
  • Staying knowledgeable of leadership talent within the property.
  • Fostering employee commitment to excellent service, participating in daily stand-up meetings, and modeling desired service behaviors in all interactions with guests and employees.
  • Ensuring employees are treated fairly and equitably.
