The Role of Principal Specialist, Mine Waste to Value

The Principal Specialist, Mine Waste to Value is responsible for transforming mining waste streams into strategic business value. This position aims to generate new revenue, enhance resource recovery, mitigate environmental liabilities, and advance circular economy objectives by converting waste rock and tailings into commercially viable products and solutions. The role contributes to resource efficiency, sustainability commitments, and the long-term economic value of Ma'aden’s mining assets, bridging technology development with commercial and operational deployment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a long-term waste-to-value portfolio aligned with growth, sustainability, and circular economy objectives.
• Identify and prioritize opportunities to maximize value recovery from waste rock, tailings, and other mining by-products, building a pipeline for innovation and commercialization.
• Expand value creation through the recovery of critical minerals, industrial minerals, aggregates, and other marketable products from mining waste streams.
• Accelerate the validation and commercialization of innovative resource recovery technologies.
• Evaluate emerging technologies based on technical readiness, scalability, economic viability, environmental impact, and strategic fit.
• Provide technical leadership for feasibility studies, due diligence, and innovation assessments, strengthening Ma'aden’s innovation capabilities through global benchmarking.
• Advance opportunities from laboratory testing and pilot programs to demonstration projects and commercial implementation.
• Develop robust business cases and investment recommendations, monitoring project outcomes for value realization and scalability.
• Build strategic relationships with research institutions, technology providers, and industry organizations to accelerate innovation and commercialization.
• Assess market opportunities and business models for waste-derived products and technologies, identifying licensing, partnership, and joint venture opportunities.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this role should possess 5 to 10 years of relevant professional experience in areas related to mine waste management, resource recovery, circular economy initiatives, or technology commercialization within the mining or related industrial sectors.
