About Saudi Aramco

Saudi Aramco is seeking a Safety Engineer to join its Loss Prevention (LP) organization. The LP organization is responsible for providing comprehensive occupational and process safety support to Saudi Aramco operations. This includes day-to-day in-field assistance, alongside centralized technical support and consulting functions for facilities and departments throughout the Kingdom.

The Role of Safety Engineer (Drilling & Workover Operations)

As a Safety Engineer specializing in Drilling & Workover Operations, you will provide daily safety support to upstream organizations. This full-time role involves offering both field and office safety support to manage safety aspects across petroleum engineering, exploration, drilling, and workover related activities, including unconventional resources and seismic operations. Candidates should possess 5-10 years of relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the implementation of the Saudi Aramco Safety Management System, its objectives, and expectations, including developing associated safety processes and participating in self-assessments.
  • Inspect onshore and offshore drilling rigs, workover equipment, and other support facilities. This requires in-depth knowledge of well control equipment and procedures, demonstrated by attendance at a Basic Well Control School.
  • Identify, evaluate, recommend actions, and follow up on critical safety tasks and control methodologies related to operational safety practices (*, work at height, isolation/LOTO, permit to work, hydrogen sulfide, confined space entry, excavations).
  • Participate in safety studies and activities using risk assessment and mitigation methodologies, such as PHAs, HAZOPs, JSAs, incident investigations, compliance reviews, or insurance surveys.
  • Develop and/or review corporate safety standards, instructions, and procedures related to upstream operations, formalizing them into company-documented practices as required.
  • Review designs of oil and gas field facilities for compliance with company and industry safety standards.
  • Assist in the development of Emergency Response Plans for credible scenarios, requiring a working knowledge of the Incident Command System (ICS).
  • Attend emergency drills as an observer and provide feedback.
  • Respond to emergency situations and incidents, during or after regular working hours, to provide technical assistance and advice.
  • Support the reporting, classification, and investigation of all incidents, participating in root cause determination and recommendations to prevent recurrence.
  • Deliver Loss Prevention-specific training to employees, contractors, and outside parties.
  • Mentor other Loss Prevention personnel.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in a relevant safety engineering role, with a focus on drilling and workover operations.
  • In-depth knowledge of well control equipment and procedures, evidenced by attendance at a Basic Well Control School.
  • Working knowledge of the Incident Command System (ICS).
  • Proficiency in identifying, evaluating, and mitigating critical safety risks in operational settings.
  • Experience with safety management systems, risk assessment methodologies (PHAs, HAZOPs, JSAs), and incident investigation.

This role is based within the Saudi Aramco Loss Prevention organization, which has field offices serving facilities across the Kingdom. These locations include Buqayq, Riyadh, Ras Tannurah, Dhahran, Jeddah, Yanbu, and Jazan.
