Senior Environmental Engineer

About the Role

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior Environmental Engineer to join their team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role focuses on managing and overseeing the Environmental Management System for Operations and Maintenance Contractors (OMC), ensuring environmental compliance, and driving sustainability initiatives across metro operations and maintenance activities. The position supports safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operations, aligning with regulatory, contractual, and ESG requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee OMC compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and contractual obligations.
• Implement and maintain Environmental Management Systems (EMS) in line with ISO 14001.
• Manage environmental permits, licenses, and reporting requirements.
• Conduct environmental inspections, audits, and compliance assessments.
• Oversee the development and implementation of sustainability strategies for O&M operations, supporting initiatives in energy efficiency, water management, and waste reduction.
• Support decarbonization and carbon reduction targets, promoting sustainable practices across metro operations.
• Track environmental KPIs (energy, emissions, waste, water usage) and prepare environmental and sustainability reports for clients and stakeholders.
• Support ESG disclosures aligned with frameworks such as GRI or similar, and maintain environmental data systems and dashboards.
• Ensure environmental controls during maintenance and operational activities, including hazardous material handling, spill prevention, and noise, vibration, and air quality management.
• Supervise depot, station, and track maintenance teams on environmental compliance.
• Identify environmental risks, recommend mitigation measures, and investigate environmental incidents to support corrective actions.
• Develop and maintain environmental emergency response plans.
• Liaise with environmental authorities, regulators, and external stakeholders, supporting client sustainability objectives and reporting needs.
• Collaborate with internal teams (HSE, Operations, Engineering, Maintenance).
• Conduct environmental training and awareness programs to promote a sustainability culture across the workforce and contractors.

Qualifications and Experience

• Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
• Experience: 3-5 years of relevant experience, with 3-5 years specifically in metro, rail, or large infrastructure O&M projects. Proven experience in environmental compliance and sustainability programs is required.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
• Experience with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
• Familiarity with ESG reporting frameworks (GRI, TCFD, etc.).
• Proficiency in carbon footprinting and sustainability metrics.
• Data analysis and reporting tools (Excel, Power BI preferred).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
