About Taj Dhabi and the Role

Taj Dhabi is seeking a Senior Planning Engineer to join its team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position is central to ensuring that projects are delivered in accordance with approved time, cost, scope, and contractual requirements. The role involves managing project planning activities using Primavera P6, monitoring actual progress against baselines, and providing accurate planning information to project management.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and control detailed baseline and project schedules using Primavera P6, including Level 3/Level 4 schedules.
  • Establish and maintain project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), activity codes, calendars, relationships, constraints, milestones, and schedule logic.
  • Review contract requirements, project specifications, scope, and milestones, incorporating them into the project schedule.
  • Monitor actual project progress against the approved baseline schedule, collecting and verifying progress data from various project teams.
  • Prepare regular schedule updates and perform Critical Path Method (CPM) analysis to identify critical and near-critical activities.
  • Analyze planned versus actual progress, identify schedule variances and performance trends, and prepare weekly and monthly progress reports.
  • Coordinate with Construction and Engineering teams to ensure planned activities are achievable and aligned with site requirements.
  • Review contractor and subcontractor schedules, updates, progress reports, and recovery plans.
  • Identify potential schedule risks, delays, and constraints, providing early-warning notifications and developing recovery/acceleration schedules.
  • Perform Delay Analysis and Time Impact Analysis (TIA), supporting the preparation of Extension of Time (EOT) claims.
  • Prepare schedule narratives explaining project progress, delays, critical issues, and mitigation measures, forecasting accurate completion dates.
  • Coordinate with the Cost Control/Commercial team for cost and schedule integration and support Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Monitor productivity and resource utilization, identifying opportunities for schedule optimization.
  • Participate in progress, planning, coordination, and client meetings, presenting project schedule status and recovery actions.
  • Maintain accurate records of schedule updates, progress data, delay events, changes, and planning documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Planning Engineers and Junior Planning Engineers.

Key Planning Deliverables

The Senior Planning Engineer is responsible for preparing, reviewing, or controlling the following:

  • Baseline Project Schedule and Detailed Level 3/Level 4 Schedules
  • Schedule Updates, Weekly Progress Reports, and Monthly Progress Reports
  • S-Curves, Progress Measurement Reports, and Milestone Reports
  • Critical Path Analysis, Look-Ahead Schedules, Recovery Schedules, and Acceleration Schedules
  • Schedule Variance Analysis, Progress Dashboards, and Schedule Forecasts
  • Delay Analysis, Time Impact Analysis, and EOT Supporting Documentation
  • Schedule Narratives and Earned Value/Performance Reports

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant planning and scheduling experience within the construction or engineering industry.
  • Previous experience as a Planning Engineer / Senior Planning Engineer on major construction projects.
  • Experience with a Main Contractor, EPC Contractor, or Project Management Consultant is preferred.
  • Strong experience in large-scale construction, infrastructure, commercial, mixed-use, hospitality, entertainment, industrial, or mega projects is preferred.
  • Advanced practical experience with Primavera P6, including developing and maintaining various schedule types.
  • Strong experience in progress measurement, schedule updating, critical path analysis, forecasting, delay analysis, Time Impact Analysis, EOT, and claims support.
  • Good understanding of engineering, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, and handover processes.
  • Experience working with consultants, clients, subcontractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Previous experience in Saudi Arabia or GCC countries is preferred.

  • Ability to develop effective recovery and acceleration strategies.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing and project execution.
  • Ability to analyze complex schedule information and provide practical recommendations.
  • Strong communication, coordination, reporting, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
  • Leadership and mentoring skills, with a strong commitment to project objectives and timely delivery.

Work Environment

This role is primarily based at construction project sites and/or project offices. It involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams including Planning, Project Controls, Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commercial, Cost Control, QA/QC, HSE, subcontractors, consultants, and clients. The environment is dynamic and deadline-driven, supporting large-scale and high-profile construction projects across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
