About the Role

Consolidated Grunenfelder Saady Holding Co. is seeking a Senior Project Engineer for a full-time position in Riyadh. This role involves leading the engineering, design, installation, and commissioning of industrial refrigeration systems, with a primary focus on large-scale projects such as cold storage, food processing, pharmaceuticals, and logistics facilities. The Senior Project Engineer will apply in-depth expertise in both ammonia (NH3) and Freon-based refrigeration systems to ensure high efficiency, safety, and compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the installation and commissioning of industrial refrigeration systems, ensuring adherence to project specifications and industry standards.
  • Manage on-site execution of refrigeration systems, coordinating effectively with contractors, suppliers, and technicians.
  • Oversee piping installation, including suction, discharge, liquid, and hot gas defrost lines, and ensure proper implementation of various defrosting methods.
  • Conduct system pressure testing, leak detection, and performance verification, enforcing local refrigeration safety codes and industry regulations.
  • Manage the construction and installation of cold storage, blast freezing, and ultra-low temperature rooms, including air distribution systems.
  • Coordinate with insulated panel suppliers and oversee the installation of cold storage doors, air curtains, and pressure relief vents to maintain efficiency and compliance with food and pharmaceutical industry storage standards.
  • Oversee the installation of electrical systems, including transformers, switchgear, MCC panels, and refrigeration control panels.
  • Supervise the setup of PLC-based automation, SCADA systems, and sensor integration for real-time monitoring, implementing energy efficiency measures such as VFDs and heat recovery systems, while ensuring compliance with IEC, NFPA 70E, and local electrical safety regulations.
  • Conduct risk assessments, oversee the implementation of ammonia gas leak detection systems, and develop and execute emergency response plans for refrigeration leaks and system failures.
  • Supervise the installation of glycol piping and brine cooling loops, ensure proper drainage system implementation, and manage flow rate testing and pump installation for chilled water and condenser cooling systems, adhering to industrial refrigeration water treatment guidelines.
  • Review and approve project execution plans, shop drawings, and material submittals, overseeing BIM coordination and clash detection using Revit MEP and Navisworks.
  • Manage subcontractors and vendors to ensure timely project delivery, conduct site inspections, implement quality control for refrigeration plant installation, and optimize procurement and material selection.
  • Oversee full-system testing and commissioning, including pull-down time analysis, energy efficiency verification, leak testing, refrigerant charge balancing, and automation validation.
  • Train refrigeration plant operators and maintenance personnel on system operation and safety protocols, and prepare as-built documentation, O&M manuals, and compliance reports for project handover.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in project engineering, specifically with industrial refrigeration systems.
  • Demonstrated in-depth expertise in ammonia (NH3) and Freon-based refrigeration systems.
  • Proven experience in managing large-scale projects within cold storage, food processing, pharmaceuticals, and logistics facilities.

Essential Skills and Attributes

  • Strong project management and coordination skills.
  • Proficiency in refrigeration system installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of electrical power distribution, automation, and control systems in refrigeration plants.
  • Expertise in safety and risk management for refrigeration facilities.
