The Role of Senior Systems Engineer – Avionics System

BAE Systems Saudi Arabia is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer – Avionics System to join our team in Riyadh. This full-time position requires 5-10 years of relevant experience. Reporting to the Engineering Trials and Integration Manager, the primary responsibility is to provide functional assistance and support to the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) Engineering Authority (EA) Section Manager. This involves developing and exploiting the RSAF EA capability, maintaining daily contact with RSAF officers within the Directorate of Aeronautical Engineering (DoAE), and offering support for Avionic Systems integration and engineering issues across Typhoon, Tornado, and Hawk aircraft platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain professional awareness of BAE Systems Saudi Arabia Engineering Regulatory Frameworks and best practices, sharing this knowledge with the RSAF Directorate of Aeronautical Engineering.
• Stay informed on UK (MoD) Regulatory Frameworks and practices, and disseminate this information to the RSAF DoAE.
• Support the RSAF EA in developing an indigenous capability for undertaking systems engineering, with a specific focus on Avionic changes and integration.
• Provide assistance in the definition, planning, and review of qualification and certification activities for the RSAF EA, supporting RSAF aircraft clearance and service modifications (limited to UK sourced platforms).
• Guide the RSAF EA in developing Hazard analysis and Safety Cases prior to commencing any activity.
• Assist the RSAF EA with identifying and developing supporting evidence required for aircraft clearances and/or system changes.
• Support the RSAF EA with system safety-related incident/accident investigations, evaluating defect and incident reports for BAE Systems platforms and providing recommendations.
• Maintain effective working relationships with other RSAF Directorates, BAE Systems Saudi Arabia deployed engineering resources at RSAF bases, platform project teams, MODSAP, and functional/networking links to BAE Systems Business Units.
• Support the RSAF in generating system integration plans and procedures for changes to existing systems to enhance safety, reliability, maintainability, or performance.
• Provide assistance in reviewing industry trials/integration plans for suitability and acceptance, prior to recommending to the RSAF DoEA engineering signatory.
• Assist in the development of system trials, integration, and testing procedures and documentation to verify performance against specification requirements.
• Support acceptance testing of aircraft general systems and equipment modifications/upgrades.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

• Degree-level education in Aeronautical Engineering or Electronics.
• Extensive proven aircraft avionic experience within an aircraft engineering organisation.
• Professional knowledge of aircraft systems certification requirements and regulations.
• Proven experience in trials and integration activities, ideally gained in a military environment.
• Demonstrated experience in liaison with aircraft and equipment Engineering and Design Authorities/Organisations.
• Knowledge of Aircraft Drawing sets.
• Experience with aircraft and support equipment programmes.
• Experience in several of the following areas: Aviation quality systems, airworthiness, aircraft safety management, design engineering, manufacturing, or project/programme management.
• Awareness of aircraft engines and ancillary equipment and their relationship to other aircraft systems.
• Experience in change management.
• Ability to communicate effectively at all organisational levels, applying varied methodologies appropriately, and establishing dependable relationships with stakeholders.
• Strong technical and interpersonal skills.
• Proven communication and team working skills.
• Ability to promote a culture of continuous development and improvement.

• Working knowledge of BAE Systems aircraft (Typhoon/Tornado/Hawk) platforms and Avionics systems.

Desirable Skills and Knowledge

• Working knowledge of BAE Systems supplied Aircraft Ground Equipment (AGE) for Typhoon, Tornado, and Hawk systems.
• Proven experience working within an Engineering Authority.
• Knowledge of engineering drawing software (*, AUTOCAD, CATIA).

Work Environment and Expectations

This role requires flexibility and adaptability, with the expectation to support all RSAF bases within the Kingdom, RSAF HQ, and other locations both within and outside Saudi Arabia as directed by the BAE Systems line manager or the RSAF Director of Aeronautical Engineering.
