About Agoda and the Role

Agoda, a global travel platform and part of Booking Holdings [NASDAQ: BKNG], connects travelers to destinations and experiences worldwide. We are seeking a Staff/Lead Data Scientist to join our Data Science and Machine Learning (AI/ML) team. This full-time position is based in Bangkok, Thailand, with relocation assistance provided. Data and technology are central to Agoda's operations, supporting a diverse team of over 7,000 people across 90 countries.

The Data Science and Machine Learning Team

The Data department, located in Bangkok, oversees all data-related requirements for Agoda, aiming to enhance data utilization across the company. The Data Science and Machine Learning (AI/ML) team addresses complex real-world challenges such as dynamic pricing, real-time customer intent prediction, and search result ranking. The team operates on advanced machine learning and big data platforms, processing approximately 600 billion events daily and generating around 5 billion predictions. This work is supported by a large ML infrastructure, including dozens of GPUs, over 30,000 CPU cores, and 150TB of memory.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, code, experiment with, and implement models and algorithms to optimize customer experience, supply-side value, business outcomes, and infrastructure readiness.
• Mine large datasets, including hundreds of millions of customer profiles and over 600 million daily user-generated events, along with supplier and pricing data, to discover actionable insights for improvements and innovation.
• Collaborate with developers and various business stakeholders to deliver high-quality daily results.
• Research, discover, and harness new ideas to drive impact.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 4+ years of hands-on data science experience.
• Excellent understanding of AI/ML/DL principles and Statistics, coupled with coding proficiency using relevant open-source libraries and frameworks.
• Significant proficiency in SQL and programming languages such as Python, PySpark, and/or Scala.
• Ability to lead projects, work independently, and contribute as a key team member.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration in a multicultural work environment.

Desired Skills and Background

• PhD or MSc in Computer Science, Operations Research, Statistics, or another quantitative field.
• Experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP), image processing, and/or recommendation systems.
• Hands-on experience in data engineering, including working with big data frameworks like Spark/Hadoop.
• Experience in data science within e-commerce and/or Online Travel Agency (OTA) sectors.
