Asst Director of Finance

About the Role

The Ritz-Carlton is seeking an Asst Director of Finance for a full-time position. This role involves developing and implementing property-wide strategies to deliver products and services that meet or exceed the needs of the brand’s target customers and property employees. The position provides financial expertise to support the successful implementation of the brand service strategy and initiatives, while maximizing return on investment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in developing methods to improve profit, including cost/benefit analysis and exploring new business opportunities.
• Analyze information, forecast sales against expenses, and create annual budget plans.
• Compile, analyze, and monitor actual sales against projected sales.
• Analyze differences between actual and forecasted wages for efficient budget planning.
• Assist in creating the annual operating budget for the property.
• Provide analytical support during budget reviews to identify cost-saving and productivity opportunities.
• Assist in implementing appropriate controls to manage business risks and ensure a strong accounting and operational control environment.
• Analyze financial data and market trends.
• Assist in developing and implementing a comprehensive annual business plan aligned with company and brand strategy.
• Provide ongoing analytical support by monitoring operating department sales.
• Produce accurate forecasts to enable operational adjustments to business changes.

Team Leadership and Stakeholder Management

• Lead, influence, and encourage others through interpersonal and communication skills, advocating sound financial/business decision-making.
• Communicate strategic goals, focus, and owner priorities clearly to subordinates.
• Oversee internal, external, and regulatory audit processes.
• Provide leadership by assigning clear accountability and appropriate authority to team members.
• Conduct annual performance appraisals with direct reports according to Standard Operating Procedures.
• Attend meetings and communicate with owners, understanding their priorities and strategic focus.
• Understand and meet the needs of key stakeholders (owners, corporate, guests).
• Communicate financial concepts clearly and persuasively to drive desired behaviors.
• Manage property working capital and cash flow in accordance with brand SOPs and owner requirements.

Financial Management and Compliance

• Ensure accurate documentation of Profits and Losses.
• Monitor applicable taxes, ensuring they are current, collected, and/or accrued.
• Submit reports in a timely manner, meeting delivery deadlines.
• Develop and support the achievement of performance, budget, and team goals.
• Improve profit growth in operating departments.
• Review audit issues to ensure accuracy.
• Generate and provide accurate and timely results in reports and presentations.
• Reconcile balance sheets to ensure account balances are supported by appropriate documentation.
• Ensure the P&L is accurate, with costs properly matched to revenue and recorded in correct accounts.
• Ensure compliance with management contract, reporting requirements, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs and LSOPs).

Human Resources Activities

• Ensure team members are cross-trained for successful daily operations.
• Ensure property policies are administered fairly and consistently.
• Ensure new hires participate in the department’s orientation program and receive appropriate training.
• Create development plans for team members based on strengths, needs, aspirations, and abilities.
• Conduct performance review processes for employees.
• Participate in hiring activities as appropriate.

Candidates should possess 0-1 years of relevant experience. The role requires a professional who can execute a business plan aligned with property and brand strategy, focusing on financial and accounting activities to deliver desirable financial results.
