About the Clinical Operations Manager Role
Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Clinical Operations Manager to join their team in Saudi Arabia. This full-time position involves leading and managing a team of clinical operations staff to ensure the successful execution of clinical trials. The company has a significant track record, having supported over 750 biotech companies and 50 pharmaceutical companies across more than 2,700 clinical trials in over 100 countries within the last five years.
Role Overview and Responsibilities
As a Clinical Operations Manager, your primary focus will be on overseeing, training, resourcing, coaching, and performance managing a team. You will drive performance through the use of metrics and key performance indicators, acting as a point of escalation for performance and training needs to ensure adherence to company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Working Practice Documents (WPDs). Collaboration with the leadership team for resourcing requirements is also a key aspect of this role.
- Manage staff by providing coaching, mentorship, and work direction.
- Conduct performance appraisals and career discussions to support employee development.
- Participate in the recruitment and selection of new staff.
- Oversee induction and orientation programs for new employees.
- Ensure all staff documentation, including CVs and training records, is complete and up-to-date.
- Monitor the timeliness and accuracy of timesheets and expense reports.
- Support allocation activities and assist project/functional leads in optimizing project operations.
- Identify and raise any issues that may impact project deliverables.
- Deliver training on WPDs, SOPs, local requirements, and other relevant clinical operations subjects.
- Identify training gaps and ensure training requirements are met.
- Assure adherence to ethical and regulatory standards.
- Address quality issues, request QA audits, and facilitate client and internal audits.
- Review systems to evaluate employee and project metrics, KPIs, and project status.
- Evaluate staff work, including conducting on-site or remote PAVs to assess monitoring skills and project conduction.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives and ensure understanding of risk-based monitoring.
- Contribute to bids and business development efforts as required.
- Collaborate with senior management on strategic planning and business development.
Qualifications and Experience
The role requires previous experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities, comparable to 5+ years. A minimum of 1 year of leadership responsibility is also essential. An equivalency of appropriate education, training, and/or directly related experience may be considered.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Advanced mentoring, leadership, and supervisory skills.
- Excellent clinical trials monitoring skills (remote and on-site).
- Understanding of or ability to learn company SOPs, WPDs, and relevant regulations (*, ICH/GCP, FDA guidelines).
- Ability to evaluate medical research data.
- Strong organizational and negotiation skills.
- High attention to detail.
- Advanced written and oral communication skills.
- Fluency in Arabic and very good knowledge of English language and grammar.
- Proficiency in computer use for data entry, archival, and retrieval.
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Strong team-building and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent conflict resolution skills.
- Advanced problem-solving abilities applicable to a changing environment.
- Solid knowledge of medical/therapeutic areas and medical terminology.
