The Ar Rjum Project
This role supports the Ar Rjum Project, a greenfield gold project located in the Central Arabian Gold Region, Saudi Arabia. Situated approximately 200 km north-east of Taif and 26 km south of Al Mouwayh, the project encompasses three open pit mining operations, a processing plant, tailings management facilities, and essential supporting infrastructure such as water and power supply, maintenance facilities, offices, and accommodation villages.
Role Overview: Field Engineering Welding
Bechtel Corporation is seeking a Field Engineering Welding professional for a full-time position in Saudi Arabia. This position is responsible for leading, implementing, and maintaining global construction field welding programs, as well as providing specialized welding engineering support. The individual will manage, inspect, and monitor the welding test lab, rod room, weld heat treatment program, and laboratory quality plan, ensuring that defects and issues are rectified before final inspection.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain the Bechtel Field Welding program; may be assigned as Lead Field Welding Engineer on large projects.
- Provide specialized welding engineering support to ensure construction meets all code, client/engineering specifications, and Bechtel procedures and standards.
- Assist in the management of the pre- and post-weld heat treatment program.
- Manage the issuance of weld filler materials for welders to meet Bechtel and Code requirements.
- Plan NDE activities for welding and coordinate with construction to support the overall construction schedule.
- Monitor welding qualification to ensure high-quality welders are tested and hired, and maintain welder qualifications and stamps.
- Provide assistance to discipline superintendents regarding pre/PWHT welding and NDE.
- Support and maintain the Project Field Welder Testing program.
- Perform inspections and documentation of all welding, NDE, and pre/PWHT activities on a continuing basis.
- Maintain and implement Bechtel’s Nondestructive Examination Qualification and Certification of NDE personnel (NEPQ).
- Implement Bechtel’s Welding Program in relation to the requirements of various GBUs.
- Prepare, develop, and qualify NDE procedures, including specialized NDE procedures.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 15 years of relevant experience, or 20 years of relevant work experience.
- PWHT Coordinator: 15 years of industry experience performing and implementing Post Weld Heat Treatment on large-scale projects.
- NDE Level III: Associate's degree in engineering/science from a 2-year technical college or university preferred plus 8 years’ experience, or 12 years’ combined industry experience with NDE methods, writing procedures, and providing training.
- Certifications: NDE Certificates including PT, MT, and LT. Must be certifiable by written examination to Bechtel’s nondestructive examination requirements as NDE Level 3. Advanced knowledge and/or certifications in SMAW/GTAW/GMAW/FCAW.
- Knowledge and Skills: Working knowledge of pre/PWHT (PHT-2) and other welding procedures/standards. Understanding of pre/PWHT of equipment and consumables. Strong technical background and knowledge of all phases of welding applications and methods and non-destructive examination relating to construction activities. Knowledge of AWS, API, NFPA, AWWA, ASTM, and ASNT codes, specifications, and standards.
