Process Automation System SME

Wood is seeking a Process Automation System SME to join its team in Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves serving as the Technical Authority across a diverse portfolio of energy, oil & gas, mining, industrial, and infrastructure projects.

Role Overview and Leadership

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership throughout the entire project lifecycle, encompassing proposals, concept studies, FEED, detailed engineering, construction support, and commissioning. As the highest level of technical authority within their discipline, the SME will provide specialist expertise, ensure engineering excellence, strengthen technical governance, and support the delivery of safe, innovative, and high-quality engineering solutions. This role also involves mentoring engineering teams, establishing and maintaining technical standards, supporting business development activities, contributing to technical assurance, and building trusted relationships with clients and key stakeholders across the region.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the technical strategy for DCS, SIS, SCADA, and integrated automation systems.
• Act as the Technical Authority across multiple projects.
• Lead technical reviews during Concept, FEED, and Detailed Design phases.
• Perform independent design assurance and peer reviews.
• Resolve complex engineering challenges and provide specialist guidance.
• Support proposals, client workshops, and business development activities.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to the development of technical capability.
• Develop and maintain engineering standards and best practices.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should be recognized industry experts with a proven track record of solving complex engineering challenges, influencing clients, mentoring engineering teams, and driving technical excellence across major international projects, typically gained over 5-10 years of experience.

• Bachelor's Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline.
• Chartered Engineer or Professional Engineer status is preferred.
