About the Role

King Abdullah bin Abdelaziz University Hospital (KAAUH) is seeking a Senior Medical Laboratory Technician to join its full-time team. This role is integral to the hospital's mission, vision, and values, involving the performance of diverse laboratory procedures in strict adherence to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The Senior Medical Laboratory Technician also assumes a leadership role within a workgroup in their assigned section.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of laboratory procedures, including patient sample analysis and proficiency surveys, in compliance with KAAUH Laboratory Standards and hospital policies.
• Ensure all duties are conducted in accordance with international and national accreditation bodies, including the Joint Commission of International Accreditation (JCIA), College of American Pathologists (CAP), American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), and the Saudi Central Board for Accreditation of Healthcare Institutions (CBAHI).
• Monitor section equipment function, perform preventive maintenance, and troubleshoot instrument malfunctions to ensure continuous operation.
• Analyze laboratory computer applications for effective data management and reporting.
• Identify technical, instrumental, or physiological causes of unexpected test results and implement corrective actions.
• Assist in the ongoing inventory of supplies and equipment, request additional materials as needed, and ensure cost-effective utilization of reagents and supplies.

Leadership and Staff Development

• Act as a workgroup leader, performing day-to-day duties and supervising the work and performance of technical personnel within the assigned section.
• Provide training and guidance to Medical Laboratory Technician II & III staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
• Assist the Manager/Supervisor with staff scheduling and in the evaluation of staff performance.
• Participate in and assist with the training of Medical Technologist/Technician students, new staff, medical students, and Pathology residents.
• Contribute to section and department educational programs, including teaching, training, verification, competency testing, and Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities.

Quality and Operational Compliance

• Assist the Manager/Supervisor in generating, maintaining, and updating the section’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Ensure thorough documentation of all section quality improvement activities.
• Assist the Manager/Supervisor in the evaluation of new equipment and stay informed on developments in Laboratory Technology.
• Participate in and support quality improvement and patient safety activities, both individually and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications and Requirements

• A Diploma in Clinical (Medical) Laboratory Sciences.
• A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in a medical laboratory setting.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Valid Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) license.

Work Environment and Expectations

The role requires working as per a defined schedule, which includes shifts and on-call duties as assigned. The Senior Medical Laboratory Technician is expected to respect patients and their families, actively promoting a patient-centered care culture within the hospital. This position also involves performing other job-related duties as assigned by management.
