Specialist Health and Safety

About the Role

Botanica is seeking a Specialist - Health and Safety to ensure compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental policies and guidelines. This full-time role involves advising on measures to minimize hazards and maintain a safe working environment, with a focus on preventive strategies.

Role Purpose

The primary objective of this position is to establish a workplace that meets legal safety standards and cultivates a culture that prioritizes health, safety, and environment. The H&S Specialist advises and assists in the implementation and monitoring of the H&S strategy and management within the subsidiary, requiring vigilance in identifying violations and proactive thinking.

Key Responsibilities

• Compile and maintain safety programs.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and standardize H&S practices for consistency.
• Establish and maintain professional relationships with employees.
• Conduct workplace inspections, risk assessments, and audits to identify potential health, safety, and environmental hazards, and recommend appropriate control measures.
• Support the development and review of job safety analyses or risk assessments.
• Initiate, organize, and perform H&S training for employees, contractors, and visitors.
• Conduct regular staff meetings and promote a safety culture by encouraging safe work practices and recognizing employees who follow safety guidelines.
• Correct unsafe acts or conditions through the regular line of authority.
• Develop and implement emergency response plans and coordinate emergency drills.
• Stop any unsafe acts or processes that appear dangerous or unhealthy.
• Record and investigate incidents to determine causes.
• Prepare reports on occurrences, compile and maintain relevant registers, and provide statistical information to the reporting manager and/or immediate superior.
• Promote a positive safety culture by fostering employee engagement, recognition, and continuous improvement in HSE performance.

Qualifications and Experience

• 2-5 years of experience in a relevant health and safety role.
• Demonstrated adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental laws and regulations.

Required Skills

• Strong attention to detail, especially during emergencies.
• Proactive thinking and attentiveness to preventive measures.
• Ability to identify violations and recommend appropriate control measures.
