About the Anthropology Quality Assurance Lead Role

YO IT Consulting is seeking an Anthropology Quality Assurance Lead for a remote contract position. This role is responsible for overseeing quality, consistency, and trainer performance across anthropology-focused AI training projects. The selected candidate will contribute to the improvement of AI models by ensuring training data is accurate, culturally sensitive, ethically aware, research-informed, and aligned with client expectations. The selection process includes an AI interview, a domain-specific task, and a recruiter interview. Please note, there is no immediate project for this role; however, qualified candidates will be prioritized for future relevant opportunities and gain access to the expert network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review AI-generated anthropology content and the work of trainers and QA personnel.
  • Evaluate output quality against established project guidelines.
  • Provide precise written feedback to contributors.
  • Ensure all contributors adhere to expected quality standards.
  • Assess work for anthropological accuracy, cultural context, theory application, ethnographic sensitivity, methodological rigor, ethical awareness, bias sensitivity, terminology quality, clarity, formatting, instruction adherence, and alignment with project-specific rubrics.
  • Identify recurring quality issues and communicate updates to trainers and QAs.
  • Support contributor onboarding processes.
  • Maintain project documentation.
  • Assist in activating contributors who are not working consistently.
  • Monitor quality by spot-checking anthropology items, identifying issues, providing ongoing feedback, and escalating critical concerns.
  • Evaluate AI-generated anthropology explanations, ethnographic summaries, cultural comparisons, human evolution explanations, and social/cultural reasoning for accuracy and sensitivity.
  • Update trainers and QAs on Discord regarding new guidelines, project changes, workflow updates, quality expectations, and anthropology-specific review standards.
  • Respond to trainer/QA questions concerning cultural context, anthropological concepts, ethnographic methods, ethics, representation, and rubric interpretation.
  • Manage trainer/QA activation by contacting inactive contributors, encouraging engagement, tracking follow-ups, and flagging availability issues.
  • Create and maintain project documentation, including style guides, trackers, FAQs, quality notes, examples, and onboarding materials.
  • Schedule and conduct onboarding and training sessions for trainers and QAs.
  • Ensure consistent application of anthropology review guidelines and understanding of project updates.
  • Flag ethnocentric, stereotyping, culturally insensitive, unsupported, or ethically problematic anthropology content.
  • Identify quality gaps, propose workflow improvements, and contribute to building scalable QA processes.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology, Archaeology, Biological Anthropology, Linguistic Anthropology, Sociology, Area Studies, Museum Studies, or a closely related field.
  • Strong command of the English language for guideline comprehension, team communication, and written feedback.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in anthropology research, teaching, ethnography, archaeology, museum/heritage work, cultural analysis, academic writing, fieldwork, or related workflows.
  • A solid understanding of anthropological theory, cultural relativism, ethnographic methods, kinship, ritual, language/culture relationships, material culture, human evolution, archaeology, ethics, and representation.
  • Ability to evaluate anthropology content against detailed rubrics and identify issues such as cultural stereotyping, ethnocentrism, unsupported generalizations, outdated terminology, methodological errors, weak contextualization, or ethically problematic framing.
  • Familiarity with areas such as ethnography, participant observation, archaeological methods, human origins, kinship systems, religion/ritual, migration, colonialism, Indigenous studies, museum ethics, or linguistic anthropology is preferred.
  • Experience leading or supporting remote teams of researchers, educators, reviewers, fieldworkers, annotators, or QAs is strongly preferred.
  • Comfort working in fast-moving remote environments using tools such as Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, trackers, dashboards, and project management systems.
  • Highly detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to maintain various forms of documentation.
  • Experience with AI training, data annotation, LLM evaluation, social science QA, academic review, cultural sensitivity review, or rubric-based review is a strong plus.

Work Type and Environment

This is a remote, contract position. Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, remote environment and be proficient with collaboration tools such as Discord, Google Sheets, and Google Docs.
