About the Cardiovascular Perfusionist Role

Fakeeh Care Group is seeking a qualified Cardiovascular Perfusionist to join their team in Riyadh. This full-time position requires a professional with 5-10 years of experience in operating the heart-lung machine and providing cardiovascular perfusion support during cardiac and non-cardiac surgeries.

Key Responsibilities

The Cardiovascular Perfusionist will be responsible for operating the heart-lung machine and ensuring optimal patient outcomes during surgical procedures. This includes:

• Operating the heart-lung machine and providing cardiovascular perfusion for adult, pediatric, and infant patients during cardiac or non-cardiac surgery.
• Reviewing patient medical history, including pathological stage, infections, and planned surgical procedures.
• Following priming protocols for all age groups, priming the circuit with fluids and administering drugs as per protocol or in consultation with the surgical team.
• Assembling and preparing additional equipment such as IABP.
• Determining appropriate disposables based on patient age, ensuring cost containment without compromising safety and performance.
• Verifying sterilization and expiry dates of all materials and inspecting disposables for damage.
• Assembling the cardiopulmonary bypass circuit under strict sterile conditions.
• Protecting against damage during the perfusion procedure and ensuring proper disposal of waste and disposables.
• Maintaining patient safety by preventing emboli and ensuring adequate oxygenation and blood flow throughout the bypass procedure.
• Maintaining adequate blood pressure within physiological and circuit limitations, with special attention to patients with cerebral and renal diseases.
• Ensuring adequate blood oxygenation by selecting the appropriate oxygenating device.
• Operating suction pumps and devices to manage blood in the operating field and decompress heart chambers.
• Maintaining and regulating blood and patient body temperatures during cooling/re-warming procedures.
• Monitoring various parameters for patient safety, including ECG, blood pressure, central venous and LA pressures, temperatures, oxygen flow, blood flow rate, Cardiac Index, myocardial protection temperature, aortic cross clamp time, bypass time, heparin time, ACT, IABP, cell saver, and kidney perfusion for renal transplants.
• Educating patients and families about health conditions, treatments, and preventative measures, as applicable.

Senior Perfusionist Duties

In addition to core perfusion duties, Senior Cardiovascular Perfusionists are expected to:

• Monitor inventory and control the supply process of consumables for open-heart surgeries.
• Prepare daily staff work assignments, on-call schedules, vacation plans, and training workshops.
• Prepare inventory items and equipment needs for open-heart surgical procedures, coordinating with companies for delivery or technical support.
• Manage department databases for statistics, research, and data management.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this role must meet the following requirements:

• A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated ability to perform perfusion for adult, pediatric, and infant patients during Open Heart Surgery with accuracy and efficiency.
• Excellent background knowledge of medical terminology.
• General knowledge of heart, lungs, great vessels anatomy, and human physiology.
• A University Science Graduate, Post Graduate, Basic Medical Doctor, or a Diploma or Post Graduate Diploma in Perfusion Technology from a reputable University or Hospital.
