The Role of a Risk Engineer

Turner & Townsend is seeking a Risk Engineer to join its team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves interfacing with multiple levels and dimensions of project teams, including Engineering and Delivery functions. The Risk Engineer provides expert advice, direction, and assurance concerning risk processes within projects. This position requires maintaining close working relationships with Function Managers, Project Controls Managers, Finance team personnel, and the Project Management, Procurement, and Commercial functions. The Risk Engineer may also represent the project with key stakeholders such as contract partners, regulators, auditors, and investors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the identification, assessment, and prioritization of threats, opportunities, and issues.
  • Maintain visibility of threat and opportunity trigger points to support risk cost profiling, timely drawdown of risk budgets, or retirement of threats and opportunities.
  • Utilize risk data to inform investment planning decisions.
  • Assist with the identification and recording of appropriate management responses that are measurable and specific, along with assessing the post-mitigated positions.
  • Monitor overall risk exposure and assess it against the remaining Risk budget.
  • Proactively manage the completion of defined management responses.
  • Work with contractors to assess contractor-held risks and their views on client-held risks that impact them.
  • Produce risk reports as required, in a timely manner, to support the effective communication of threat and opportunity status.
  • Conduct quantitative risk assessment (cost and schedule) to inform project contingency levels.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A degree in a relevant discipline.
  • A minimum of 8 to 15 years of relevant work experience, or proven experience in a risk management environment.
  • A working understanding of an integrated risk management process, encompassing risk, cost, and schedule, particularly on large programmes or projects.

Essential Skills and Attributes

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • A genuine commitment to finding new and more effective ways of working.
  • APM/IRM risk certification is preferred.
