About the Role
Amazon is seeking a Site Engineer, Construction to join its Construction Team. This full-time role is based in Riyadh, KSA, and is a key part of the Engineering Team, focusing on project and construction management for industrial development. The position involves overseeing new builds, retrofits, expansions, and program initiatives, from site selection through to contract execution.
Role Overview
The Site Engineer oversees the construction of new Fulfillment Centers (FCs), Sortation Centers (SCs), Delivery Stations (DSs), and auxiliary buildings, as well as renovations and tenant improvements in existing facilities. This includes implementing facility network infrastructure. The role requires detailed reviews of job budgets and programs to identify and resolve discrepancies, including those in contractor bid packages. You will partner with internal customers and external stakeholders such as consultants and contractors to ensure efficient project delivery. As Amazon's representative, you will interface directly with Developers and General Contractors, acting as the primary integrator between construction and other Amazon stakeholders responsible for equipping, furnishing, and operating FCs. This role combines construction engineering, planning, project management, facilities management, and contract management, with 40-60% travel domestically or to other MEATR countries.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage new Fulfillment Center construction projects across the MEATR region, including renovations and capacity improvements in existing facilities.
- Advise on the impact of changes related to schedule, costs, and permitting.
- Support construction scope review and development with internal technical teams and operational customers.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ranging from small renovations to large-scale new facilities.
- Work independently within the assigned regional area.
- Prepare reports, specifications, and technical analyses to define design requirements, equipment, and services.
- Negotiate contracts and contract changes with developers and General Contractors.
- Provide overall site management, coordination, planning, and specification of business proposals, including subcontractor coordination.
- Assess project performance using Key Performance Indicators for safety, quality, cost, schedule, and sustainability.
- Partner with teams on the transition of base building management and oversight of turnover documentation.
- Review designs and ongoing construction for conformance to current building specifications.
- Provide critical review of current design standards to identify value engineering and design enhancement opportunities.
- Receive, review, and analyze all proposed cost and time change requests from external project teams.
- Review and guide internally requested changes for validity and impact, ensuring timely and cost-sensitive incorporation.
- Lead or assist in negotiations with appropriate regulatory bodies and Authority Having Jurisdiction entities.
- Maintain positive, clear, concise, and transparent cross-team communication for all aspects of project delivery.
A Day in the Life
In this role, you will represent Amazon GESI, ensuring the successful delivery of Amazon construction projects while strategically improving processes, health and safety, and sustainability performance. You will lead and mentor large cross-functional teams as an expert resource to complete construction projects. Serving as the Subject Matter Expert in your engineering field, you will provide clear guidance on technical solutions, their cost impact, and risks to project safety and delivery. Daily tasks may include site validation, due diligence, risk analysis, design management, contract and cost negotiations, and stakeholder management. Strong communication skills, from front-line to executive-level managers, are essential.
Qualifications
- Basic Qualifications:
- 0 to 2 years of project supervision, real estate development, architecture/design experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Structural, Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
