About the Trend Engineer Role

Bechtel Corporation is seeking a Trend Engineer to support the Expo 2030 Riyadh project. This role is integral to managing the infrastructure program for the event, which aims to be a global platform for collaboration focused on sustainable development and innovation. The Expo 2030 Riyadh event is scheduled from October 2030 to March 2031 and is expected to attract over 40 million visitors. This full-time position is based in Riyadh.

Role Overview and Responsibilities

The Trend Engineer will be responsible for supporting project-specific cost control and reporting procedures, as well as performing estimating, analysis, and control activities for projects with complex requirements. This includes developing innovative solutions to cost engineering challenges. The role involves close collaboration with various disciplines to ensure the success of the trend program.

  • Detect, record, monitor, and report project trends to the management team.
  • Forecast cost and schedule impacts resulting from trends and propose mitigation plans.
  • Understand Bechtel's trend process and subcontract requirements for contract changes.
  • Assist in analyzing change-related initiatives and work planning requiring detailed assessment.
  • Support the overall trend program schedule and initiate trend focus meetings.
  • Support the timely preparation of cost estimates and analyze comparisons of scope, quantities, and cost data.
  • Perform and verify productivity analysis of construction operations.
  • Establish productivity bases for estimates in concurrence with Construction.
  • Prepare or supervise the preparation of cost studies using historical data and statistical analysis.
  • Develop new techniques to meet specific project needs.
  • Develop trend evaluations and ensure consistency with previous reports.
  • Issue required reports to management and adhere to project procedures.
  • Understand the project budget and scope, monitor development, flag deviations, and prepare/evaluate trends.
  • Assist in developing unit job-hour and pricing data for specific disciplines.
  • Perform data analysis, identify problems, and make recommendations.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and have 8-10 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, 12-14 years of relevant work experience will be considered.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Proficiency in estimating methods, processes, and procedures.
  • Experience with quantity takeoffs, statistical analysis, and cost and price analysis.
  • Ability to understand and implement technical discipline processes, engineering drawings, quantity determinations, and financial reports.
  • Thorough understanding of cost indices and escalation projection sources.
  • Knowledge of risk and contingency assessments.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation abilities.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including lookups, pivot tables, and complex graphs.
  • Familiarity with Bechtel's internal estimating software (BETK) and conforming estimate details into budgets.

Work Arrangement

This position is designated for part-time teleworking in accordance with Bechtel's global telework policy. It requires a minimum of four days of in-person attendance per week. The specific weekly in-person schedule will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with leadership.
