About the Role

WSP in the Middle East is seeking an Associate / Associate Director – Roads & Highways to join its Transport & Infrastructure team in Jeddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia. This part-time role involves a key leadership position in the delivery of roads, highways, and infrastructure masterplan projects across the Kingdom. The successful candidate will support both project execution and client engagement activities, contributing to significant transportation developments in the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage roads and highways projects through all stages, from concept to construction support.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams for integrated infrastructure design and delivery.
  • Act as a primary contact for clients and stakeholders, fostering strong relationships.
  • Manage project schedules, resources, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Contribute to business development through proposals and client growth initiatives.
  • Provide mentorship and technical support to engineering teams.
  • Ensure compliance with quality management systems and HSE standards.

Project Leadership and Technical Oversight

The Associate / Associate Director will provide technical guidance and oversight to project teams, ensuring high-quality and efficient project delivery. This includes managing projects from preliminary design through to detailed design and construction support, coordinating integration across highways, transportation, utilities, drainage, and structures. The role requires supporting innovative and cost-effective engineering solutions, ensuring designs comply with client requirements, local authority standards, and international best practices. Monitoring project performance against milestones, quality objectives, and commercial targets is also a core function.

Client and Stakeholder Engagement

This is a highly client-facing position, requiring the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, developers, government authorities, and key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. Responsibilities include participating in client meetings, technical workshops, design reviews, and project presentations. The role involves liaising with various entities to support successful project outcomes, assisting with authority approvals, and contributing to the preparation of technical proposals, bids, and tender submissions. Promoting the Roads & Highways practice within the Saudi Arabian market and supporting business growth objectives are also key aspects.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience of 5-10 years in roads and highways projects.
  • Strong technical and project delivery expertise, with experience leading multidisciplinary design teams on complex transportation and infrastructure projects.
  • Proven track record working with leading international engineering consultancies.
  • Experience delivering roads and highways projects within Saudi Arabia and the wider GCC.
  • A strong understanding of the Saudi market, local authority requirements, and project approval processes.

Team Leadership and Operational Excellence

The role involves providing mentoring and technical support to junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture. The successful candidate will support resource planning and capability development initiatives within the Roads & Highways team, encouraging innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement. Additionally, the position requires ensuring compliance with company quality management systems, governance requirements, and HSE standards, participating in design reviews, and promoting the highest standards of safety, technical excellence, and project delivery.
