About BAE Systems Saudi Arabia

BAE Systems Saudi Arabia serves as the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under Government-to-Government arrangements, providing essential equipment, support, and training to Saudi Arabia. This includes the maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and the training of RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel. The Role of Avionics Specialist

The Avionics Specialist will report to the Director of Aircraft Maintenance, through the Tornado and Training Aircraft Manager. This full-time position, based in Riyadh, involves providing impartial maintenance and engineering advice on all aspects of Tornado avionics systems and equipment. The specialist will coordinate and manage Tornado avionics maintenance and engineering issues within the Directorate, serving as a primary point of contact in KSA for HQRSAF, RSAF Bases, MODSAP, and BAE Systems regarding Tornado avionics programmes, proposals, and in-service support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate, propose, and coordinate solutions for airworthiness or ground safety problems identified through reports.
  • Perform analysis of avionics systems.
  • Review, evaluate, and progress technical submissions, Costed Proposals, and Statements of Work for Tornado avionics systems.
  • Draft and coordinate Directorate responses to Prime Contractor originated ECP’s and TCTO’s.
  • Draft, review, and coordinate RSAF generated TCTO’s relevant to Tornado avionics systems.
  • Prepare Statement of Requirements for the design and performance of avionics systems and equipment.
  • Participate in research, development, and implementation of programs to improve safety, reliability, and maintainability of avionics systems.
  • Monitor test programs associated with avionics systems and equipment and evaluate test data to identify problems or verify performance.
  • Prepare RSAF staff correspondence (reports, letters, presentations) for internal or external organisations on Tornado avionics systems issues.
  • Accompany and support RSAF officers at briefings and meetings.
  • Participate in avionics system requirement reviews, design reviews, integration readiness reviews, and system acceptance reviews.
  • Research problems discovered in service and develop solutions.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance and engineering disciplines and the management team to meet collective requirements.
  • Coordinate with project work teams to ensure adherence to policies, quality targets, and schedule milestones.
  • Review and recommend RSAF authorisations of maintenance and engineering modifications.
  • Progress approval of improvement initiatives through external design organisations and technical authorities.
  • Perform studies and participate in research, development, and implementation of programs to improve safety, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Support RSAF officers at meetings and participate in design and programme management reviews.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree level qualification or equivalent (HND/HNC) in Electronics Engineering or a related field.
  • Extensive experience (5-10 years) in systems engineering, maintenance, and management of civil and/or military aircraft and equipment.
  • Comprehensive awareness and knowledge of Tornado aircraft and avionics systems.
  • Detailed knowledge of maintenance management, statistical, analytical, and presentation techniques.
  • Full conversance with concepts of maintainability, reliability, system diagnosis and failure modes, design procedure, and industrial processes.
  • Experience and knowledge of RSAF practices and procedures, preferably gained at Base Level within SBDCP Programmes.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree or higher.
  • Chartered Engineer status.

Work Environment and Location

This is a full-time position based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The role requires collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders, including RSAF personnel and other engineering disciplines, within a dynamic operational context.
