The Senior SQL DBA Role

We are seeking a dedicated Senior SQL DBA to join our team in a full-time capacity. This role is crucial for maintaining and optimizing our database systems, ensuring their integrity, availability, and performance. The ideal candidate will possess 0-1 years of experience in database administration, demonstrating a foundational understanding of SQL environments and a readiness to take on leadership responsibilities in database management.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform standard Business As Usual (BAU) activities, including SQL monitoring and performance tuning using profiler and extended events.
• Lead the creation and maintenance of storage design, archive, backup, and recovery activities, plans, and procedures.
• Lead the design, creation, maintenance, and monitoring of database instances.
• Develop and implement procedures and monitoring processes to ensure data integrity, availability, and validation.
• Provide consultancy and support on new technologies to enhance database functionality and efficiency.
• Support the technical support team on database design, development, and maintenance as required.
• Ensure that storage, archiving, backup, and recovery procedures are functioning correctly.
• Map out the conceptual design for planned databases and refine logical designs for specific data model translation.
• Monitor the refinement of physical designs to meet system storage requirements.
• Oversee the installation and testing of new versions of the Database Management System (DBMS).
• Liaise and coordinate related work streams with IT project managers, database programmers, and application developers.
• Review the design and development of SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and DDL/DML commands.
• Ensure regular communication with technical, applications, and operational staff to maintain database integrity and optimization.
• Supervise the commissioning and installation of new applications and customization of existing applications.
• Ensure all procedure documentation and guide manuals are in place.
• Report on availability, performance, and capacity aspects for all databases and related infrastructure components.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, preferred.
• Relevant IT certificates.
• Knowledge of IT Service Framework.
• 0-1 years of experience in a relevant field.

Essential Technical Skills

• Experience with SQL versions from 2008R2 to SQL2019.
• Proficiency in TSQL scripting.
• Experience with high availability solutions, specifically ‘Always On’ availability groups.
• Knowledge and experience in disaster recovery, including SQL recovery types.
• Familiarity with SQL migration activities.
• Understanding of security, access, and reporting methods for databases.
