Job Description
About the Role
ENGIE Middle East is seeking a Central Control Room Operator (CRO) to join their team in Al Jubayl, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role is responsible for overseeing plant operations from the control room, ensuring the facility consistently meets required availability, reliability, efficiency, generation, and cost targets, all while adhering to strict safety and environmental limits. The position requires 0-1 years of experience and a detailed understanding of modern Cogeneration, Gas Turbine, MED, and Desalination plant technologies, along with various auxiliary equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with the Integrated Management System (IMS) and operate the plant within defined parameters for staff safety, legislative compliance, product quality, and environmental responsibility.
- Perform regular equipment start-ups, shut-downs, changeovers, and continuous operation/monitoring, responding to alarms and emergency conditions.
- Maintain optimum plant performance and the required level of power and water export as per the off-taker control center.
- Execute safe plant start-up and shut-down procedures to ensure the reliability of power and water plant equipment.
- Monitor and analyze plant performance parameters, performing necessary corrective actions to maintain safe and efficient running conditions.
- Plan and control changeover/shut-down of plant equipment for maintenance purposes.
- Direct and guide field operators on handling and operating plant equipment, and conduct routine plant test/changeover/maintenance activities.
- Raise incident/accident reports, participate in safety audits, toolbox talks, and safety walks.
Operational Coordination and Reporting
- Raise work orders in the system for plant defects and follow up on their progress.
- Coordinate with the Shift Engineer and maintenance team to schedule planned and unplanned maintenance activities.
- Prepare and issue safety documentation to ensure safe isolations from the system for maintenance.
- Coordinate and maintain liaison with Power, Gas, Sea Water & Water Control Centers regarding Availability Declarations & Requirements Planning.
- Prepare comprehensive reports including Shift Reports, Trip Reports, Shift Production Control Room Logs, and other reports related to equipment operations.
- Assume a lead role in case of emergency in the absence of the Shift Engineer.
Accountabilities and Performance Indicators
The CRO is accountable for strict compliance with operational procedures, ISO Standards, and safety protocols. Key performance indicators include the quality of safety audit reports, peer-to-peer reviews, and safety walk & talk reports. The role demands effective performance of operational activities, successful and efficient start-ups and shutdowns, and safe plant operations during shifts. Additional accountabilities cover the quality of shift and other reports, work orders, proper planning for maintenance support, timely service requests, accurate declaration of Power & Water availability, and effective liaison with control centers. The CRO must be conversant with ENGIE Safety Rules, capable of acting as a designated person, Issuer, and safety controller, and able to complete the skill matrix to work as an Acting Shift Engineer.
Qualifications and Experience
- 0-1 years of experience in a relevant field.
- Detailed understanding and practical experience with technologies associated with operating a modern Cogeneration plant, Gas Turbine Plant, MED, Desalination Plant, and a wide range of Auxiliary Equipment.
- Ability to complete the field operator PQR.
- Capability to work in the field when necessary.
Reporting Structure and Autonomy
The Central Control Room Operator operates under the general guidance of the Shift Engineer. The job holder has the autonomy to plan and manage their areas of activity within predefined limits. Any extraordinary issues that arise outside of established policy and procedure are to be referred to the Senior Shift Engineer for approval of recommendations or solicitation of further action plans.
