Company Overview and Role Introduction

Nama Chemicals Co., located in Al Jubail, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Instrument Technician for a full-time position. This role is central to ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the plant by leading and executing all daily instrument maintenance activities. The Instrument Technician will be responsible for troubleshooting, problem resolution, installation, and repair across a wide range of industrial instrumentation and control systems.

Role Purpose and Scope

The Instrument Technician plays a critical role in maintaining the operational integrity of Nama Chemicals Co.'s diverse production facilities. This involves hands-on work with industrial instrumentation, process analyzers, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Fire & Gas (F&G) systems, compressor and centrifuge controls, boiler and burner control systems, and bagging machines. These systems support the production of various chemicals, including Chlor Alkali, Calcium chloride, Epichlorohydrin, Ally Alcohol, Utility Vendor Packages, Epoxy Plants, and Caustic Prilling Units.

Key Responsibilities

  • Comply with Nama policies and safety procedures, contributing to target SHE rates and NAMA ISO certified quality standards.
  • Perform daily maintenance activities according to Standard Maintenance Procedures, ensuring high quality, reasonable timeframes, and proper record-keeping and housekeeping.
  • Provide timely feedback to supervisors on any findings or abnormalities.
  • Act as a supervisor during their absence, preparing and submitting required reports.
  • Respond to operation and maintenance activities (normal and emergency cases) and attend on-call if assigned.
  • Attend all on-job and classroom training sessions.
  • Work and troubleshoot independently due to the diverse nature of the work.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in troubleshooting PLC software, DCS, Boiler Control System, and Burner Management System.
  • Acquire and maintain required certifications.
  • Support the supervisor in creating periodic spare parts reviews.
  • Plan for Shutdown activities job lists.
  • Maintain, repair, and calibrate field instruments such as Temperature Transmitters, various types of Pressure Transmitters, Level Transmitters, load cells, pH, Conductivity, and ORP sensors and their transmitters.
  • Maintain, repair, and calibrate process analyzers including ECH GC, various O2 Analyzers, Propylene Analyzer, Moisture Analyzer, CO Analyzer, HCL Analyzers, free Chlorine Analyzers, and AAL GC.
  • Follow up on analyzer PM schedules.
  • Possess maintenance knowledge of various types of flowmeters (DP, Coriolis, electromagnetic, Vortex, etc.).
  • Perform PM/servicing for all types of control valves and on-off valves (globe, butterfly, ball, diaphragm valves) and their related parts (solenoid valves, positioners, limit switches).
  • Maintain, repair, and calibrate vendor packages such as bagging machines, drumming machines, weighbridges, and weighers.
  • Maintain, repair, and calibrate different types of Gas Detectors installed in the plant.
  • Be proficient in handling various instrument tools like Beamex Calibrators and HART communicators (375/475/4100).
  • Lay out, install, and place into service new controlling and instrument devices, calibrating as required.
  • Conduct periodic preventative maintenance inspections of all control instruments, diagnosing existing or potential trouble; clean, lubricate, calibrate, and adjust as conditions indicate.
  • Prepare scope of work for new site jobs.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 3 Years Diploma in Process Instrumentation and Control from a reputed college/university.
  • Vocational Training/Industrial Training Institute background.

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Excellent knowledge of Instrumentation and independent troubleshooting.
  • Basic knowledge of DCS and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers and their troubleshooting.
  • Good troubleshooting knowledge of Analyzers, including basic GC operation and troubleshooting.
  • Computer knowledge and ability to create Purchase Requisitions (PR) in the SAP system.
  • Ability to lead a small team.
  • Knowledge of Industrial safety procedures and standards, including experience in confined space, hot works, working on heights, and energy isolation requirements.
  • Knowledgeable in hazard identification related to environmental aspects and personal safety.
  • Strong ability to perform risk assessments before obtaining permits and to implement mitigation steps during the job (*, PPE requirements, process isolation).
  • Fully aware of Plant EHS requirements for safe task execution.
