About the Role

Bechtel Corporation is seeking an Area Safety Engineer for a full-time position in Ras Al Khair, within the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. This role is integral to the ongoing Jubail project, which encompasses significant civil engineering and infrastructure development across cities including Al Khobar, Al Jubail, and Ras Tannurah. The Area Safety Engineer will report to the Lead Safety Engineer or the Project ESH Manager, contributing to project-wide environmental, safety, and health (ES&H) initiatives.

Project Overview

The Jubail project, managed by Bechtel since the mid-1970s, is a large-scale civil engineering endeavor in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province. Saudi Arabian Bechtel Company (SABCO) functions as the Management Services Contractor for the Royal Commission, overseeing engineering, procurement, and construction. The project involves managing design submissions from local architect/engineering firms and supervising construction work by local contractors and sub-contractors in Jubail and Ras Al-Khair Industrial Cities. The contract was renewed in June 2026 for another five years, focusing on new residential communities, iconic buildings, major site preparation, commercial buildings, mosques, schools, hospitals, sports facilities, clinics, universities, utility services, infrastructure, roads, highways, and port and pipeline expansions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct project-wide ES&H initiatives, including vehicle inspection campaigns, focused assessments of contract work sites (*, work at height safety, chemical storage, traffic and pedestrian management, environmental inspections, scaffold, PPE, excavations).
• Provide technical support and review of client contractor method statements and risk assessments.
• Offer technical ES&H support to the construction department and client contractors.
• Provide safety technical support and assistance to contract projects during site visits.
• Participate in meetings with customers, project construction colleagues, and client contractors/subcontractors to advise on safety requirements affecting ES&H during the scope of works.
• Provide recommendations and input for revising safety procedures, work processes, and other improvement measures.
• Conduct safety inspections/assessments of project construction activities to monitor compliance with applicable safety and health requirements, including contractual commitments, permits, and the project’s ES&H Manual. Provide detailed reports on corrective actions.
• Produce and deliver training presentations as required.
• Undertake additional duties as assigned by the Lead Safety Engineer and Project ESH Manager.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Experience: 2-5 years in a relevant field.

This full-time position is based in Ras Al Khair, Saudi Arabia, within the Eastern region, and involves working on the extensive Jubail project. The role requires collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders, including project construction teams, clients, contractors, and subcontractors.
