Job Description

About the Role

Assystem is seeking a Senior Financial Controller to join their team in Al Khobar, Eastern Province. This full-time position requires 5-10 years of experience and focuses on overseeing the financial health of complex projects within the energy transition sector.

Project Financial Oversight

The Senior Financial Controller will be responsible for monitoring the financial performance of projects, including revenue, costs, margins, and overall profitability. This involves comparing actual results against budgets and forecasts, identifying potential risks, and proposing corrective actions. Ensuring the accuracy of project financials, including accruals, provisions, and cost recognition, is a key aspect of this role. The position also involves supporting project managers in understanding financial performance and contributing to improved project outcomes.

Cost Management and Reporting

This role will lead complex cost allocation and intercompany recharge processes, developing and maintaining transparent methodologies. The Senior Financial Controller will ensure alignment between cost drivers, operational activities, and financial reporting, preparing necessary analyses and reconciliations for management and audits. Furthermore, the role entails delivering comprehensive financial reporting packages on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, providing clear variance analysis and actionable commentary. Executive-level dashboards and reporting for senior leadership will also be prepared, translating complex financial data into insights for non-finance stakeholders.

Forecasting, Budgeting, and Controls

Leading project forecasting, including cost-to-complete and margin projections, is a core responsibility. The Senior Financial Controller will analyze project performance trends, identify risks and opportunities, and support project reviews with robust financial analysis. Tracking key project performance indicators (KPIs), backlog, billing, and resource utilization will be essential. The role also supports budgeting and forecasting processes across projects and departments, validating assumptions, and ensuring alignment with business strategy, including performing scenario and sensitivity analysis. Strengthening internal controls across project accounting and cost allocation processes, ensuring compliance with policies and financial governance standards, and supporting audit requirements are also critical functions. Identifying process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency is expected.

Business Partnering and Qualifications

The Senior Financial Controller will act as a finance partner to project managers and business leaders, providing clear and practical financial guidance to support decision-making and constructively challenging assumptions to drive financial discipline. A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is required. A professional qualification such as CIMA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent is preferred. The role demands 5-7+ years of experience in financial control, project finance, or management accounting, with strong experience in project-based environments such as engineering, consulting, or construction. Proven expertise in project financial control, cost allocation and recharge methodologies, financial planning and analysis, and complex management reporting is essential.
