About the Role
Airbus ** is seeking an STC Cabin Design Engineer for a contract position in Al Qatif. This role is integral to Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) cabin upgrade projects, requiring accountability for cabin architecture, engineering deliverables, and the management of cabin equipment development. The engineer will bridge technical complexity with practical execution to deliver certified modification solutions for airline customers.
Role Overview and Context
As an STC Cabin Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the technical oversight of cabin modification projects throughout their lifecycle. This involves working on complex aircraft systems and contributing to product development, manufacturing, and direct customer support. The Engineering Center in Mobile, Alabama, where this role is based, focuses on the design and development of commercial aircraft cabins, including aftermarket upgrades and reconfigurations for various product types globally.
Key Responsibilities
- Orchestrate all engineering activities for cabin modification projects from initiation to delivery, managing schedule, cost, and risk.
- During the Offer Phase, collaborate with Sales to assess technical feasibility, define scope, establish engineering assumptions, and estimate lead times and costs.
- Lead Pre-Modification (Premod) analysis, manage configuration control, determine aircraft impacts, and draft Technical Requirement Specifications (TRS) and Long Lead Time Items (LLTI) lists during the Architecture Phase.
- Supervise 3D/2D pre-studies, 3D model integration, clash analysis, and the production of Cabin Definition/Installation drawings during the Development Phase.
- Support Weight & Balance (W&B) calculations, Service Bulletin (SB) redrafts, and Ground/Flight Test Plans (GTP/FTP).
- Serve as the technical point of contact for suppliers during critical milestones including ITCM, PDR, CDR, FPDR, and FAI.
- Provide on-site engineering support during aircraft embodiment and assist airline operators with post-delivery in-service queries.
- Ensure all cabin modifications comply with Airbus engineering standards, aviation regulations, and safety requirements.
- Perform design and justification activities in accordance with Airbus approved processes, procedures, and ethical guidelines.
- Deliver engineering packages within agreed budgets and timelines.
- Identify opportunities for simplifying engineering workflows, tools, and processes.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by sharing lessons learned from retrofit projects with the global team.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aeronautical, Civil, or Electrical).
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in the aviation industry, with a strong focus on aircraft cabin engineering, development processes, and design/certification paths.
- Authorized to Work in the US.
- Experience in aircraft modifications and upgrades.
- Experience in cabin design, cabin equipment, and cabin integration.
- Advanced knowledge of configuration management.
- Experience with CATIA V5.
- Knowledge of EASA Part 21 (DOA / POA), Part 145, and CS25 regulations.
- Familiarity with Airbus tools: Airn@V, Tasky, PASS SSI, ICC, Zamiz.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems ATA21/35/38/92 and associated aircraft cabin installations.
- Delegated signatory for ATA25 within Airbus DOA.
- In-depth understanding of the cabin/cabin systems retrofit process.
- Ability to support projects from technical proposal to after return into service.
