This full-time position for an Assembly & Test Technician is based in Dammam, Eastern, Saudi Arabia.
The Assembly & Test Technician Role
The Assembly & Test Technician plays a crucial role in the production and maintenance of National Oilwell Varco proprietary and other oilfield equipment. This position involves precise assembly, disassembly, and rigorous testing of components to ensure they meet specified design and operational standards. The technician will be responsible for maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy, and compliance throughout all processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble and disassemble National Oilwell Varco proprietary and other oilfield equipment.
- Interpret design drawings and perform assembly operations accordingly.
- Execute Pressure Testing (Hydro, Gas) for Choke assemblies and Functional Testing for actuators as per company procedures.
- Read and accurately complete traceability documents and testing charts.
- Apply torque to nut bolts and cap screws using specified instruments and adhering to torquing procedures and requirements.
- Participate in identifying the root cause of assembly and testing failures.
- Remove small quantities of metal using hand files, scrapers, and grinders to achieve close fits between parts.
- Record instrument readings as required by test procedures or company guidelines.
- Disassemble various equipment for the salvage of parts.
- Report any material discrepancies or defects to the area supervisor.
- Operate lifting devices for the movement of parts and other equipment as needed.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, production control, quality personnel, and other shop staff regarding job-related matters.
- Maintain equipment and the work area in a clean and orderly condition, performing basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment as required.
- Record all essential details of parts, including heat number, material grade, part number, and WO/PO number.
- Adhere to and comply with state and federal laws, the Company ISO Quality Program and procedures, Company policies, and Safety and Environmental Regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in assembly and testing roles, preferably within the oilfield equipment manufacturing or service industry.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting design drawings and technical specifications.
- Demonstrated ability to perform precision assembly and disassembly tasks.
- Experience with various testing methods, including pressure (hydro, gas) and functional testing.
- Familiarity with torquing procedures and the use of torquing instruments.
- Strong attention to detail for recording data and identifying discrepancies.
- Ability to operate lifting devices and other shop equipment safely.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with team members and supervisors.
Work Environment and Compliance
The role operates within a manufacturing and testing environment where adherence to strict safety and quality protocols is paramount. The technician is expected to maintain a clean and organized workspace, perform basic preventative maintenance, and diligently follow all company procedures, including the ISO Quality Program, company policies, and relevant Safety and Environmental Regulations. Compliance with state and federal laws is also a fundamental expectation.
