Job Description

About Perfect Vision and the Role

Perfect Vision is seeking an Embedded Systems Engineer to join its team in Dammam, Eastern region. This is a full-time position requiring 5-10 years of experience in embedded development. The successful candidate will be instrumental in designing and building robust firmware for telematics devices.

Role Overview

As an Embedded Systems Engineer, you will develop firmware that enables telematics devices to capture vehicle and asset data, process it at the edge, and securely stream it to the company's platform. This involves writing efficient, robust C/C++ code for constrained hardware, integrating various connectivity solutions and sensors, and establishing a reliable over-the-air update pipeline for the fleet.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, write, and maintain firmware in C/C++ for microcontrollers, operating on RTOS (FreeRTOS/Zephyr) or bare-metal environments.
  • Develop and integrate device drivers and low-level interfaces, including UART, SPI, I2C, ADC, GPIO, and DMA.
  • Implement vehicle-data acquisition systems utilizing protocols such as CAN, OBD-II, J1939, and Modbus.
  • Build cellular connectivity and telemetry solutions using MQTT, TCP/IP, TLS, and potentially CoAP/HTTP.
  • Design robust over-the-air (OTA) firmware update mechanisms, incorporating rollback capabilities and integrity checks.
  • Optimise firmware for low power consumption, minimal memory footprint, and long-term field reliability.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers during board bring-up phases and with the platform team on device-to-cloud data contracts.
  • Write unit and integration tests, perform debugging with JTAG/SWD, and provide support for field diagnostics.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A degree in Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or an equivalent field.
  • 5-10 years of professional experience in embedded development.
  • Strong proficiency in C (and ideally C++) for resource-constrained microcontrollers.
  • Hands-on experience with RTOS concepts, interrupt handling, and real-time constraints.
  • Practical experience with serial and embedded protocols such as UART, SPI, and I2C, along with at least one vehicle bus protocol (CAN or OBD-II).
  • Experience with cellular or wireless connectivity and MQTT/TCP-IP networking.
  • Comfortable using hardware debug tools, including oscilloscopes, logic analysers, and JTAG/SWD.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience with shipping OTA update systems and secure boot implementations.
  • Familiarity with GNSS/GPS positioning and dead-reckoning techniques.
  • Knowledge of embedded security principles, including TLS, key storage, and secure elements.
  • Exposure to Continuous Integration (CI) practices for firmware and hardware-in-the-loop testing.

Application Information

Perfect Vision offers a challenging opportunity for an Embedded Systems Engineer to contribute to advanced telematics solutions. Salary for this position will be disclosed during the interview process.
