About the Role

Shifa Al Bawadi Medical Service is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our full-time team in Jeddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia. This role is crucial for accurately and safely collecting, processing, and analysing patient specimens. The Laboratory Technician ensures reliable laboratory results while strictly adhering to approved quality, infection-control, and patient-safety standards. We are looking for candidates with 0-1 years of experience in a laboratory setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect blood and other clinical specimens using approved procedures and verify patient identity, ensuring correct labeling of all samples.
  • Receive, register, process, store, and transport specimens appropriately to maintain sample integrity.
  • Perform a range of laboratory tests in haematology, clinical chemistry, serology, urinalysis, microbiology, and other assigned sections within the authorized scope of practice.
  • Identify abnormal or critical results and immediately report them to the responsible physician or laboratory supervisor.
  • Ensure accurate entry, verification, and timely release of all laboratory results.
  • Perform any other laboratory-related duties as assigned by the supervisor or management.

Laboratory Operations and Quality Assurance

  • Operate, calibrate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment according to established protocols.
  • Conduct internal quality-control procedures and meticulously document the results to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain appropriate stock levels of reagents, consumables, and collection materials, including monitoring expiry dates and storage temperatures.
  • Maintain complete laboratory records, logs, maintenance reports, and quality documents.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, incidents, errors, and specimen rejection issues promptly to ensure operational efficiency and safety.
  • Participate in audits, proficiency testing, quality-improvement activities, and staff training initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A valid professional classification and registration with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) is mandatory.
  • 0-1 years of experience in a clinical laboratory environment.

Compliance and Ethical Standards

The Laboratory Technician is expected to adhere strictly to all approved quality, infection-control, and patient-safety standards. This includes diligently following infection-control, biosafety, and biomedical-waste disposal procedures. Compliance with the medical centre’s policies and all applicable regulatory requirements is essential. Protecting patient confidentiality and medical information is a paramount responsibility in this role.
