About Bechtel and the Ar Rjum Project
Bechtel Corporation, established in 1898, has successfully completed over 25,000 projects across 160 countries. The company operates in Infrastructure; Nuclear, Security & Environmental; Energy; Mining & Metals; and Manufacturing and Technology markets, with services spanning from initial planning to operations. This full-time Site Manager role is for the Ar Rjum Gold Project in Saudi Arabia.
The Ar Rjum Project is a greenfield gold development featuring three open-pit mining operations with associated waste dumps and ore stockpiles, a processing plant, tailings management facilities, and supporting infrastructure. This includes water supply, power supply, maintenance facilities, offices, and temporary and permanent accommodation villages. The project is located within the Central Arabian Gold Region, approximately 200 km north-east of Taif towards Riyadh.
The Role of Site Manager
As a Site Manager, you will be responsible for managing the organization and direction of project construction activities and overseeing total site management. This includes supervising construction craft personnel, field engineering, contract administration, cost and schedule management, field procurement, and finance and accounting. Your leadership will ensure project operations are compliant, safe, timely, within scope and budget, and that clients are satisfied. This position is for Site Managers on large projects, typically exceeding $1 billion and/or involving over 1500 craft personnel, characterized by high complexity and multiple stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the organization and direction of construction and related activities for the project, including actions of Bechtel, subcontractors, suppliers, clients, and their representatives.
- Act as the primary client contact for all project field activities and maintain effective client relationships.
- Oversee total site management, encompassing supervision of construction craft personnel, field engineering, contract administration, cost and schedule, field procurement, finance and accounting services, and craft resource personnel.
- Coordinate all project contractual activities and participate in the development of contract, subcontract, or vendor scopes of work, budgets, contract formation, and negotiations.
- Oversee jobsite expenditures for labor, equipment, material, and services, ensuring field operations remain within budget.
- Establish project field procedures and objectives within corporate policies and procedures, as necessitated by jobsite conditions.
- Develop, implement, and administer a jobsite security plan, coordinating activities with the corporate security department.
- Ensure the development and execution of the Project Automation Plan, Environmental Compliance Plan, safety plan, site survey plan, non-manual staffing plan, subcontracting plan, labor strategy, Construction Execution Plan, and job-site work rules.
- Plan and establish procedures to ensure construction operations meet engineering designs and specifications.
- Oversee the construction process, review plans and specifications for costs and constructability, manage corporate processes and procedures, and lead proposal preparation.
- Provide recommendations for studies, lessons learned, project assessments, and new methods to optimize the completion of project construction activities.
Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience, or 17-19 years of relevant work experience.
- Must have held a site leadership role in the Middle East / North Africa (MENA) region.
- Experience on large-scale Mining, Oil and Gas, or Industrial projects, leading multidisciplinary/functional teams (Owner, EPC, or Sub-Contractor).
- A recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, construction management, and/or extensive actual work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the required knowledge.
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Thorough knowledge of all phases of construction operations relating to construction pre-planning, mobilization requirements, field activities, field engineering disciplines, construction technologies, and project management.
- Extensive understanding of government compliance standards and familiarity with National Codes and Standards as they relate to construction.
- Knowledge of Construction Automation tools for Completions, Quality, and Advanced Work Packaging (AWP), and thorough knowledge of Construction Work Processes.
- Familiarity with Six Sigma and lean construction methodology.
- Recognition as a leader in the industry with a proven track record of successful management of construction projects.
- Ability to lead the site team in all aspects of day-to-day construction site execution per Bechtel’s scope of works.
- Ensure adherence to Bechtel’s corporate ES&H, Quality standards, and Standard Construction procedures, and compliance with applicable national and state requirements for Mining.
- Serve as the main point of contact for the Customer and Regulator on the Bechtel project site.
- Ensure project schedule and cost reporting is accurate and provide appropriate mitigations as required.
- Ability to highlight technical issues that arise during the construction process early and facilitate timely solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to build a high-performing team from the ground up, setting clear expectations, goals, and targets.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to make informed decisions based on technical knowledge and experience.
