Financial Controller - The Ritz-Carlton, Jiddah

The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, *** is seeking a Financial Controller to serve as the strategic financial business leader for its property in Jiddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves championing and implementing property-wide strategies to deliver products and services that meet or exceed brand and customer expectations. The Financial Controller provides essential financial expertise to support brand service strategies, initiatives, and maximize return on investment, requiring 5-10 years of relevant experience.

Strategic Financial Planning and Decision Making

This position creates and executes a business plan aligned with the property and brand's business strategy, focusing on financial and accounting activities to deliver desirable financial results. Key responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing financial data and market trends to inform strategic decisions.
  • Forecasting sales against expenses and developing annual budget plans.
  • Compiling, analyzing, and monitoring actual sales against projected sales.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve profit, including cost/benefit estimation and exploring new business ventures.
  • Analyzing variances between actual and forecasted wages for efficient budget planning.
  • Developing, executing, and implementing new business plans.
  • Advocating for sound business and financial decision-making to strengthen competitive advantage.

Financial Operations and Control Environment

The Financial Controller ensures a strong accounting and operational control environment to safeguard assets, improve operations, and enhance profitability. This includes:

  • Implementing a system of appropriate controls to manage business risks.
  • Supporting property strategy from a finance and accounting perspective.
  • Submitting reports in a timely manner and ensuring delivery deadlines are met.
  • Ensuring Profits and Losses are documented accurately.
  • Achieving and exceeding performance, budget, and team goals.
  • Reviewing audit issues and ensuring appropriate corrections are made.
  • Monitoring all applicable taxes, ensuring they are current, collected, and/or accrued.
  • Generating and providing accurate and timely financial results in various formats.
  • Ensuring compliance with standard and local operating procedures (SOPs and LSOPs).
  • Overseeing internal, external, and regulatory audit processes.

Team Leadership and Stakeholder Management

This role involves leading accounting teams and managing relationships with key stakeholders, including owners, corporate, and guests. Responsibilities include:

  • Utilizing interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence, and encourage others.
  • Communicating strategic goals, focus, and owner priorities clearly to subordinates.
  • Providing leadership by assigning clear accountability and appropriate authority to team members.
  • Understanding and meeting the needs of key stakeholders, including owner perspective and ROI expectations.
  • Advising the General Manager and executive committee on existing and evolving operating/financial issues.
  • Attending owners' meetings to provide context and explanation for financial results.
  • Communicating financial concepts clearly and persuasively to drive desired behaviors.

Human Resources Activities

The Financial Controller manages and conducts human resource activities within the department to ensure effective team operations and development:

  • Ensuring team members are cross-trained to support successful daily operations.
  • Administering property policies fairly and consistently.
  • Ensuring new hires participate in the department’s orientation program and receive appropriate training.
  • Creating development plans for team members based on their strengths, development needs, and career aspirations.
