The Senior GIS Specialist Role at Parsons

Parsons Corporation is seeking a Senior GIS Specialist to join its team in Mecca, Makkah, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position involves applying Geographic Information Systems (GIS) principles, techniques, and analyses to manage complex assignments across various projects.

Purpose of the Position

The primary purpose of this role is to lead the creation, maintenance, updating, and review of GIS databases for diverse projects. The specialist will produce detailed maps and conduct spatial analysis to support informed decision-making processes within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation, review, and execution of GIS implementation and management plans at program and project levels.
  • Create and maintain digital maps for various projects using GIS capabilities.
  • Conduct effective data analysis, input, and cleansing to identify patterns, trends, and insights in geospatial data, improving quality and accuracy.
  • Apply geoprocessing techniques to manipulate and analyze geospatial data, generating new information to resolve geographical problems.
  • Define topology rules to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
  • Advance data completeness for reliable spatial analysis and decision-making.
  • Perform basic and advanced editing and digitization for accurate conversion of analog maps or geospatial data into digital formats.
  • Ensure responsible usage of desktop and web applications for spatial analysis and data sharing, and utilize workbenches for transforming and converting geospatial data.
  • Develop custom GIS applications to support the team in identifying solutions to spatial problems.
  • Draft special provisions and review systems and databases for compliance, with appropriate oversight.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to team members, including reviewing GIS deliverables, contributing to training manuals/videos, and guiding system, software, and database usage.
  • Offer technical guidance, training, and coaching to junior staff on GIS software and applications.
  • Check deliverables from less-experienced team members.
  • Advise senior management and production staff on related work matters.
  • Assist the team in responding to client queries and requests and provide input to project collaborators.
  • Collaborate with project teams to lead spatial data analysis for decision-making and interface regularly with other departments on work assignments.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in Geographic Information Systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and implement GIS systems and databases for geospatial data maintenance.
  • Proven experience in conducting geospatial analysis, creating maps, processing field data, and ensuring quality control.

Technical Skills and Collaboration

  • Ability to work closely with Master Planning and Landscape teams to define and manage technical GIS workflows, enhancing existing procedures.
  • Proficiency in supporting studio requirements related to CAD, BIM, and MicroStation works.
  • Experience working internationally, with a preference for experience within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).
