About the Role

HCLTech is seeking an experienced AIX L3 Support Engineer to manage and support a large-scale IBM Power/AIX environment. This full-time position is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and requires deep expertise in AIX, VIOS, HMC, Power Systems, SAN storage, and high-availability clustering. The role also involves handling Linux L2-level tasks and supporting mission-critical systems with stringent uptime, security, audit, and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide L3 support for AIX systems, including installation, patching, OS upgrades, tuning, and troubleshooting.
• Administer logical partitions (LPARs), DLPAR operations, system performance tuning, filesystem/LVM management, and capacity optimization.
• Manage and maintain high-availability environments, including PowerHA clusters and replication setups.
• Handle VIOS patching, upgrades, and virtual I/O (SEA, NPIV, vSCSI, vFC) management.
• Perform HMC software updates, release upgrades, service pack installations, and configuration standardization.
• Plan and execute firmware upgrades on IBM Power Systems (Power9/Power10 or equivalent).
• Lead SAN storage migrations across multi-vendor platforms (3PAR/Unity/IBM or equivalent), including LUN provisioning/decommissioning, zoning coordination, multipath validation, and host mappings.
• Lead yearly disaster recovery (DR) exercises, performing end-to-end failover testing, environment validation, and recovery procedures.
• Address OS-level vulnerabilities (CVEs), apply hardening, and maintain compliance posture.
• Participate in and lead infrastructure initiatives such as OS upgrades, data center migrations, storage and virtualization modernization, and infrastructure automation.
• Perform Linux L2 tasks including user management, patching, service monitoring, log analysis, cron, and basic network troubleshooting.
• Conduct proactive monitoring, system health checks, and risk identification.
• Maintain accurate documentation, including SOPs, build documents, DR runbooks, and configuration records.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• 5-10 years of experience in AIX L3 support and IBM Power Systems administration.
• Demonstrated expertise in AIX, VIOS, HMC, and Power Systems.
• Proficiency in SAN storage management across multi-vendor platforms.
• Experience with high-availability clustering solutions, including PowerHA.
• Ability to independently execute complex upgrades, migrations, and DR exercises.
• Familiarity with Linux L2-level administration tasks.

Project Execution and Operational Excellence

The engineer will prepare change plans, impact assessments, test plans, and rollback strategies, executing changes with a zero-defect methodology. This role supports highly critical production environments, ensuring the resilience, security, and stability of core business systems. It involves enterprise-level modernization projects, including OS upgrades, storage transitions, and data center migrations, requiring coordination with cross-functional teams and vendors to resolve incidents and deliver planned activities.
