Job Description

About the Internship

Tabby (تابي) is seeking a Backend (Go) Engineer Intern to join its engineering team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This is a paid internship designed for early-career engineers seeking direct involvement in production systems. Tabby develops financial products utilized by millions across the GCC, operating high-load, security-critical backend systems with stringent regulatory requirements.

Role Overview

This internship offers a practical engineering role with significant responsibility, rather than a purely educational program. Interns are integrated into existing backend teams and contribute to production code from day one, adhering to established engineering standards. Backend engineers at Tabby focus on the systems underpinning core financial products, including distributed services, APIs, data storage, external provider integrations, and internal platforms supporting various product teams.

Key Responsibilities

Interns will work on real production tasks under senior review. Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain backend services using Go.
  • Work with relational and in-memory data stores.
  • Contribute to API development and service-to-service integrations.
  • Participate in designing and evolving backend components.
  • Read and understand existing system architecture and data flows.
  • Write code with a focus on correctness, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Participate in code reviews and technical discussions.
  • Fix production bugs and address technical debt in live systems.

Candidate Profile

This internship is intended for strong early-career engineers with 0-1 years of experience, including current students and recent graduates. Candidates should be prepared for a demanding program designed for rapid professional growth in backend engineering.

Internship Structure

  • A paid internship with full integration into an engineering team.
  • Opportunity to work within a distributed engineering team spanning multiple countries.
  • A clear path to a junior or middle role based on performance during the internship.

Location and Engagement

This opportunity is open to Saudi nationals (Saudi passport required), with location flexibility allowing candidates to be based outside KSA. An office-first approach is preferred in Riyadh where feasible. A full-time level of engagement is expected throughout the internship, requiring contributions at a full working-day pace. While flexibility for classes or exams can be arranged with a mentor in advance, overall performance, ownership, and context involvement are anticipated at a full-time level.

Requirements

  • For Saudis Only
  • No experience required
