About Asaan and the Role

Asaan is seeking a Collections and Registration Senior Manager to join its team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role is central to managing the organization's collections, ensuring their legal compliance and proper maintenance according to established procedures.

Role Purpose and Context

Reporting to the Collections Care Director, the Senior Manager oversees the daily operations of collections management. This position ensures that all collections are managed in accordance with legal requirements and agreed-upon procedures, thereby enhancing the institution's reputation and meeting the diverse needs of stakeholders, including exhibition researchers, donors, and the public.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement the collection and acquisition strategy and the annual business plan.
  • Manage day-to-day organizational collections in line with established policies and procedures.
  • Support the development of collection policies and procedures in alignment with approved departmental guidelines.
  • Oversee and execute the acquisition, loan, documentation, and deaccession processes for collection items.
  • Manage daily registrar activities in collaboration with the Documentation Manager.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the strategic plan for collections, ensuring alignment with the institution’s overall mission and goals.
  • Monitor and report on the performance of the collections against strategic objectives to the line manager.
  • Work within collections care work programs to deliver the digitization of the physical collection for preservation, education, and research access.
  • Collaborate with the Documentation and Archive Manager to ensure the Collections Management System (CMS) implements all Collections Management policies and procedures, and ensure its correct use by all collection staff.
  • Manage daily operations of storage, maintaining compliance with high standards and ensuring a safe environment for the collections.
  • Implement long-term storage solutions, including off-site facilities and high-density storage optimization, as part of departmental work plans.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead and manage the collections management team, including registrars and support staff.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide professional development opportunities for team members.
  • Encourage and support research and scholarship related to the collections.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Museology, Art History, Archaeology, Library Science, or a Bachelor’s degree in Science.
  • A Master’s degree in Science is preferred.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in collections management or a related field.
